The Salem Run July 1 thru 3 2000 The trip was great! Since nobody has written a report yet, let me sketch the basics and urge other members to fill in the gaps. We rose at an unholy early hour Saturday morning and ate breakfast in Queens. Then we took a quick jog up north to Peabody, Mass. which the residents pronounce funny. We checked into our luxurious accomodations at the Marriott (pool, restaurant, lounge, free-sex), dropped off our stuff, and then popped into Boston for a few hours. While in Beantown, Nicole sweet-talked some hotel doormen into letting us park our bikes for free on the sidewalk in front of a hotel in prime territory: i.e., right next to Faneul Hall, which is the tourist center of Boston. Nicole batted some eyes, they turned into jelly, and we were all set. Oh yeah: there were 14 of us on 11 bikes. Jaime, Denise, Nicole, Frank, Mike, John G. & Sue, Kevin, Debbie, Robin & I, Rich M., Ron and Sue. Back to the story: while in Boston, Frank, Jaime, Rich and Nicole got the coolest of hats: black & red caps embroidered with the Nassau Wings name and logo. Very stylish. What the well-dressed biker should wear. To avoid having Ron feel left out, Nicole had a gift made for him too -- a grain of rice with "Nassau Wings" engraved on it. How generous of her. Too bad Ron's poor eyesight prevents him from reading it. Jaime felt equally generous and, during his and my tour of a hot-sauce emporium, he picked out a lewd bottle with unclothed male buns as a gift for Nicole. Strangely, she liked it. On Sunday, we ventured into Salem, saw several witch and pirate museums, walked the town, ate and drank, took photos of odd traffic signs, put Jaime in a wooden stock, bought stuff and teased each other. In short, we did the Nassau Wings travel experience. Dinner was at Pizzeria Uno, my favorite restaurant. Robin, who inexplicably finds many of our members to be attractive, was chatting with Rich M. and playfully called him a "curmudgeon". To which he responded with puzzlement: "Did you just curse at me?!" When dealing with Robin, you have to remember she's a schoolteacher and likes new vocabulary words. We rode home on Monday, with some of us going to Foxwoods, others going directly home, and others (Robin & me) forking off to Rhode Island to visit relatives. A splendid time. Perfect weather, warm comraderie and lots of laughs. The type of experience that makes me thrilled to be a NW member. Ralph
