My Only Love
Part 2
By Heidi Colom
On the other side of Hope Island, the next day

"Believe, Wheeler, it is true."
"I just cannot believe she does love me too."
"And, yes, she loves the flowers and chocolate you leave on her doorstep. She has pressed her flowers and eaten the chocolates. And you're right, she does look like an angel in her white nightgown."
"But how do I let her know? Since that little episode in Russia, we've avoided the subject, and each other a bit."
"And that was...five days ago! She sure has problems with her bottled up feelings."
"But she has a heart of gold. It's amazing how much she cares for her family."
"And she loves you too. She was crying while she played her song."
"Wow, I wish I had been the lucky one to see her. Okay, Kwame, I need your help," Wheeler called out the window to his friend.
        "Homework?" Kwame asked.
"No, real life. My only love." Wheeler was jumping up and down.
"Oh, her. Getting info out of her is harder than threading a needle for a camel!"
        "I don't care."
"Hey, Kwame, if a girl played a love song with you on her mind, how would you feel?" Ma-Ti asked.
"Well, that would tell me that she sees me in a special way."
"Bingo! Guess whom I caught playing one for this guy."
"Go for it," Kwame gave his approval.

"There will come a day, somewhere far away, in your arms I'll stay, my only love," Linka sang to herself the next day. She found a little message next to the flowerpot in her window that read: "What if that day came soon and somewhere close to you?"
"Bozhe moy!" Linka turned red as a tomato. "In your arms I want to stay, my only love," it kept reading. "OK, whose idea of a prank is this? Was it you, Gi? Or Ma-Ti?"
But as Linka read on, she saw it was not a prank. "Follow the flower petals."
Linka ran out to follow the flower petals, but not before she brushed her hair and freshened her lip gloss. "Bozhe moy," she thought. She had major butterflies in her stomach.

When she came to the place after following the petal trail, she saw it was truly fairy tale like. It was a clear area in the middle of the temperate forest of Hope Island. There was a ray of sunshine right over her. Birds sang happily and flowers bloomed. She twirled around in joy. The only thing missing was the prince. Linka wondered where he was. It was no fun if he was not here. "Where are you, my prince?" Linka wondered out loud, yet caught herself and blushed.

A pair of hands covered her eyes. Oops! She got caught! Linka took the hands off her. She was too surprised to talk. She could feel the colors in her face.
"Guess now you know! Do svidaniya!" and she tried to dart away.

"No, please stay, Linka," Wheeler begged her with a huge pair of puppy-dog eyes.
