The Flight Of the Kaw
Part 10
By Fibbi
"Birdies!" the Kaw said. They all turned around and looked at her.
"Noble Kaw!!!" a sparrow screamed and leapt into her arms. Kaw gave the sparrow a big hug and set it down on the table.
"Okay, everyone. Clean up my parlor, and then you may go see the surprise I have waiting in the garden for you!" The Kaw put her arms in a wide gesture that implied she had gotten them a huge present.
The birds were excited and cleaned up the parlor. Then the Kaw led them into the garden, and Linka and Wheeler gasped when they saw what was there.
A giant dump truck was dumping truckloads upon truckloads of birdseed into the empty swimming pool. Birdbaths stood next to it, and birdhouses with running water and air conditioning were being installed in every tree.
"Courtesy of Blight, Plunder and Co., I present to you the remodeled garden courtyard!" announced Kaw. The birds started to cheer, and then they went to the swimming pool full of birdseed to start eating.
"Blight, Plunder and Co.?" whispered Wheeler to Linka.
"Yes... you should be pleased. I am paying them to put all their resources into bird supplies," cut in Kaw.

This seems sort of fishy, thought Wheeler. Linka looked on in wild wonder.

Meanwhile, Helenadia was eating ice cream and humming "Scarborough Fair". That was her favorite song, and she hummed it constantly. She looked out the window at all the birds eating, drinking, and partying, and she smiled.
Kaw walked through the door. "Helen, please show these two their bedroom. I'm late for a meeting." The Kaw grabbed a briefcase and walked out the door.
"Bedroom? One bedroom? For the both of us?" Linka asked, almost the cross between angry and happy... one couldn't tell.
"Yes," was Helenadia's reply. "Come with me, if you will." She put her spoon down on the table and led them to their room.
Their bedroom was one of total opulence. It was the bedroom, in fact, of Linka's dreams... done in dark cherry wood and red curtains, with a fountain of garnet in the middle spouting crystal blue water. A wrought-iron door led to a balcony overlooking the garden and the edge of a shoreline.
There was only one problem: one bed, two people.
Linka and Wheeler exchanged confused looks.
