Ranma 1/2 Homepage FAQ
I frequently get e-mails asking me the same questions over and over again. So I decided to make this little question and answer section to address a few of them.
Question: I've downloaded a song but after I listen to it, it is all garbled.
Answer: The problem might be which browser you are using. For some reason, Internet Explorer seems to like some of the songs better than Netscape. So if you are used Netscape to download the song, try Internet Explorer instead and it should solve your problem (or vice versa). If you don't feel like downloading the song again, try this DOS based program called Uncook. It should able to unscramble a song but don't complain if it doesn't.
Question: When I try clicking on a song link to download it, all I get is a bunch of wierd text on my scrren.
Answer: You are actually trying to view the actual contents of the song file. To save it, "right-click" on the song link, then choose either Save Link As in Netscape or Save Target As in Internet Explorer. A window will pop up asking you where you want the file. You're all set from there.
Question: The links aren't working!
Answer: If the link is not working, try again later - as in a few minutes or even a half hour later. Some of the links (the movie links in particular) do not work because of certain problems with the host's server. They used to offer anonymous downloads, but it seems recently they disabled anonymous logins - probably because too many people were downloading from that site making it too busy. Anyways, I've left the links up for the movie in hopes the server will allow anonymous connections soon. If not, I hope to be able to find some more server space to host the files myself, as I do with most of the mp3's. If a music mp2/mp3 link is not working, just e-mail me telling me that the link does not work. Be sure to tell me which link is broken!
Question: I am starting a site/already have an anime related site. May I redirect file links from your page onto mine?
Answer: I used to not mind at all if people linked files from my site, but now a days it's getting really hard to find servers and to make space for all these files I have on this page. It's a hassle to keep them up, it's a hassle to find available servers, and it's a hassle to receive 5+ compaints everyday. With this in mind, you may do so - but please don't steal all my links. Use your good judgement on how many you want to use. If you decide to go ahead and use some of my links, I would appreciate it if you made a link back to my page. I'm not trying to sound all grouchy about this matter but if you've been through all I have with this page, then you would understand.
Question: I've e-mailed you more than once, and you still haven't responded to my e-mail!
Answer: I read/respond to my anime related e-mail about once every month or so. This is because most of it deals with broken links and the other complaints, as well as the fact I get an overwhelming amount of e-mail everyday regarding the page. You may not hear from me for awhile, but I will eventually respond. Now on the other hand, if the e-mail doesn't have a complaint, then I occasionally answer when I read it. ;)
Question: Why don't you zip up the MP3/AVI/MOV files? It would make the file smaller and faster for me to download.
Answer: I don't compress the MP3 files because the nature of MP3 files are already very compressed as is. When you try zipping up an MP3 file, it will make the file less than 1 percent smaller than it was originally. As for all the other files, such as those movies, I don't because the files aren't on my server - therefore, I cannot alter them.
Question: Can you please break up those huge movie/music files into smaller pieces? It would be a ton easier to download them that way for me via my modem.
Answer: No. I can't do that because the files are not on MY account. Therefore, I cannot alter the files at all.
Question: Could you send me such and such file by e-mail? And by the way, you have a great page!
Answer: No. Thanks though for the comment. =)
Question: Where can I buy anime CDs (i.e. Ranam 1/2 Doco CD,etc.), video tapes, books, and the like?
Answer: Try checking out UseNET newsgroups. There are special groups made specifically for buying/selling anime related items (such as rec.arts.anime.marketplace). However buying through comanies/people through UseNET is not always a good idea since a lot of deals go sour and people get ripped off. You can also try searching on the world wide web using Yahoo! or AltaVista for companies who deal anime items (Three decent-pretty good ones are Anime Nation, Ani-Magic, and The Serpent's Lair). Companies who advertise on the web usually are more reliable than the ones who deal through UseNET. And finally, you should check out your local comic/video stores. Many usually carry anime stuff. And occasionally, you'll find an anime music cd or two at cd stores - particularly the "mega" ones (Virgin, large Sam Goody's,etc.)
Question: How do I make my own MP3s?
Answer: There are several programs which have been made to "rip" music tracks off of audio cds amd also programs which then encode the files to MP3 format. Check out www.layer3.org for tons of programs and information relating to MP3s.
Question: Did you know some of your song translations are wrong in the lyrics section of your page - this word should actually be that word.
Answer: I didn't translate the songs myself, someone else did. I prefer to leave the translation the way the author orignally wrote it - in other words, I'm way to lazy. =)
Question: How did you make that Ranma 1/2 desktop theme? How can I make my own theme?
Answer: Check out any desktop theme, and you'll notice a file with the extension ".theme". Edit that file with a standard text editor, and point the appropriate files to the new files you want it to use. If you prefer to use a nice looking program to help you make one, check out www.windows95.com for any and every type of Windows95 shareware - you're bound to find a few theme editors on that page.
Question: Your commentary of such and such movie is terrible! I can't believe you said such terrible things about it! You don't give enough credit to the anime!
Answer: Glad to hear you enjoyed it.
Comment: Your site sucks - nothing works.
Response: Then go find one that does.
Well, that's about it for this section. Hope it helped to answer any questions you might have had regarding this page. If this still didn't help you answer your questions or you just want to drop me a note, than feel free to e-mail me.
