Firearms Creation Guide Additions and Weapon Modifications
Firearms Creation Guide Additions and Weapon Modifications
Peter Millholland's excellent Firearms Creation Guide is a great way to create firearms for SR. However, of course, there are things you just can't think of, or never thought of. Soo, again, I bring you additions to add some more spice to your weapon.
You Chose Wisely!. Raygun's excellent site that features more weapons made by the FCG.
9mm round: This is the base round for use in Assault Rifles. This is to be the assumed round for the Ares HVAR. However, there are other designs that use this round as well.
Advanced Gas-Vent: Similar to the Improved Gas-Vent below, the Advanced Gas-Vent incorporates threads behind the compensation to allow it to mount suppressors or silencers. However, another compensator cannot be mounted, and all recoil compensation benefits are lost when a silencer/suppressor is mounted. Additionally, the user must by a custom silencer/suppressor to use with this option (+100% cost).
Design Cost: 30/level Weight Factor: +0.20 kg per level Conceal Factor: 0, 0, -1, -2 Max Rating: Space Used: Barrel
Autostabilization Stock: Basically a mini-gyro mounted in the stock. Usually mounted on Assault and Sniper Rifles, and it gives 1 point of recoil compensation as well as the added stablization giving a -1 modifier as well. It should be noted that when a character uses an autstabilization stock as a weapon, the butt of the rifle, he or she should roll 1D6. On a 1, the mini-gyro suffers shock, therefore destroying the system. [mil]
Design Cost: +100 Weight Factor: +0.2 Conceal Factor: 0 Max Rating: NA
Bipod: This is a standard bipod fitted on the forearm of the weapon. It is designed to allow Under-barrel systems to be still mounted. It offers 2 points of recoil reduction when deployed. [civ]
Design Cost: +10 Weight Factor: +2 kg Conceal Factor: NA Max Rating: NA
Bolt Action: This modification is for rifles that fire with a bolt action, such as sporting rifles and some sniper rifles. All are "short stroke", which means the firer does not have to cycle the bolt as far, therefore not taking as long or screwing up the sight picture. Rechambering a round constitutes the "Ready Weapon" action per SRIII main book. This operation allows the use of either a clip or internal magazine.[civ]
Design Cost: +20 Weight Factor: +.10 Conceal Factor: 0 Max Rating: NA
Chopped Barrel: This is more or less a normal barrel cut in half, to reduce the ranges or increase the concealability of the weapon. Reduce each range bracket by half (round down) and reduce the Power of the weapon by 2.[civ]
Design Cost: -10 Weight Factor: -0.5 kg Conceal Factor: +1 Max Rating: NA
Cyber Optic Triangulation (COT): A modification to smartgun systems, this allows characters to see through the scope in their eye as though they were actually looking through it. The system projects the scope's image in the users eye in a small window. All normal functions may be used, zooming and simple targeting. This also helps in targeting the weapon, giving a -1 modifier to all attacks when using this system. One bonus to this system is that it may be used as a "periscope", allowing attacks without actually seeing the target. However, the character does not get the extra -1 modifier, he or she only gets the smartgun modifier. The COT system requires a modification to the induction pad for smartguns. It adds two magnetic interface circles, which interface with the ones on the butt of the weapon, just like a regular smartgun. The COT system can also be a stand alone system, allowing the same benefits but without any smartgun benefits. [mil]
Design Cost: +400 Weight Factor: +0.2 Conceal Factor: NA Max Rating: NA Space Used: Grip
COT Scopes: These are the scopes that work with the COT system. For Thermographic or Low-Light options, simply add the normal point value to the scope, as well as reducing concealability by the standard -2. All COT scopes are modified Image Mag scopes. [mil]
Design Cost: 38 (Level 1), 60 (Level 2), 90 (Level 3) Weight Factor: +.40 Conceal Factor: -1 Max Rating: 3 Space Used: Top
Double Clip Design/Dual Feed System: This puts two ammunition clips side by side on a weapon. For pistols, since most of the magazines are mounted in the grip, it gives an additional +1 to any target numbers, due to the discomfort it would give. Trolls, and Orks do not suffer this penalty since they already are big. This only applies to weapons that do have it in the pistol grip. For those weapons (SMGs, Rifles), it does not confer any positive or negative modifier. Additionally, if the weapon is smartlinked, he or she may switch clips as a Free Action. For non smartlinked weapons, it requires a Simple Action to perform. This nominally includes the hardware for this. It has a micromotor system and requires specialized ammunition clips (+100% to cost). The micromotors feed the round into the chamber. A lithium battery powers this system, and can fire up to 2,000 rounds per clip. Naturally, you can carry two types of ammunition on a single weapon. The Dual Feed System is similar to the Double Clip system, only that the Dual Feed System is designed for machine guns. This system incorporates micromotors to feed the belt into the chamber. It has a lithium battery that enables to fire up to 2,000 rounds before needing a new battery. This is seperate from the Caseless Ammunition Design.[sec]
Design Cost: 200 Weight Factor: 0.5 (weapon hardware), +1 (exra magazine when loaded), 0.5 with Dual Feed System. Conceal: 0, -1 (extra magazine) Max Rating: NA
Firing Brace: This is a simple firing brace that is normally found on machine guns. It consists of a simple wire frame that seats the weapons butt on the firer's shoulder. A benefit while firing prone (or prone supported, GM's discretion) is that the firer gets an additional -1 to thier target numbers while using this. When deployed, the Firing Brace reduces the Concealability by 1. [civ]
Design Cost: 20 Weight Factor: 0.10 Conceal Factor: NA/-1 Max Rating: NA Space Used: NA
Free Floating Barrel: This a rather effective modification, with the barrel "suspended" from any part of the rifle. The intention is to keep the accuracy of the barrel, whilst preventing warping of the barrel due to other parts of the rifle. This is completely attached to the reciever, and is heavier as well. This is mainly used in Sniper rifles, where the added accuracy counts more. The barrel adds a die to any Firearms/Rifles roll when used. [sec]
Design Cost: +500 Weight Factor: +1 Conceal Factor: 0 Max Rating: NA
Longer Barrel: This lenghtens the weapons barrel by 25%, allowing better ranges. Naturally, increase each range bracket by 25% and add 1 to the Power of the weapon as well. [sec]
Design Cost: +100 Weight Factor: + 0.5 Conceal Factor: -1 Max Rating: NA
Modularity: This modification allows different parts to be used on a single frame, much like the AUG-CSL. [mil]
Design Cost: +400 Weight Factor: NA Conceal Factor: NA Max Rating: NA
Modular Weapon System: Similiar to the TAG Rail Mount (see below). However, unlike the TAG system, which is one rail, the MWS is four rails that form a cross on the forearm of the weapon, allowing four systems to be mounted at one time (within reason). It can accept all standard TAG attachments.
Design Cost: +100 Weight Factor: 1.0 Conceal Factor: -2 Max Rating: NA
Multi-Launcher: This is the same system mounted on the SMC Combatmaster. It can fire modified Ballistas (+50% cost) and other systems (for more information, check out FAB-NGS, MGL-16 on the bottom of this page). Design Cost: +100 Weight Factor: +2 Conceal Factor: -2 Max Rating: NA
PARGET: This simply hardwires the PARGET system into the rifle, allowing full use of that system. [mil]
Design Cost: +600 Weight Factor: +.2 Conceal Factor: 0 Max Rating: As PARGET
Rangefinder: A standard rangefinder mounted in the forward portion of the weapon. I is also compatible with Ares Air-Timed Grenades. [civ]
Design Cost: +10 Weight Factor: +.1 Conceal Factor: 0 Max Rating: NA
Rotating Barrel Mechanism: Designed for multi-barreled weapons, this drives the barrels around. The battery that comes with the system can spin as many combat turns as rounds it can used. Quite simply, in order to make it simple, the battery can fire up to 10,000 rounds. Each Combat Turn that the barrels are spun, the spinning takes up "50 rounds", regardless of it being fired or not. This is for every 5 seconds that the barrels are spun. There is no difference on how many barrels are spun. This is mainly mounted on Light to Heavy machine-guns. Activating the rotation requires a Simple Action, and requires a Full Combat turn (3 seconds) to completely spin. This may be turned into a Free Action through use of a Smartlink, but still requires a full Combat Turn to rotate. [sec]
Design Cost: 300 Weight Factor: 5 Conceal Factor: NA Max Rating: NA
Scope Handle: Standard on the AUG-CSL/ECS, as well as the HK77UK, and the HK98UK, PSG-54A3, this allows scopes to be mounted in the handle without loss in concealability (up to a maximum of -1 concealability may be used). It allows the user to swap out various levels of scopes. Another modification is a secondary mount on the handle to allow other sights to be used, with a slight increase in weight. This essentially adds another mount to the weapon.
Design Cost: +20 (+45 for the secondary mount) Weight Factor: +.10 (+.20 for the secondary mount) Conceal Factor: 0 Max Rating: NA
Solenoid Trigger: Quite simply the trigger mechanism is removed (the sear), and a firing button is installed. This is used on vehicle mounted weapons, which uses the electrical impulse to fire the mounted weapon. This has also been used on target pistols since the 1970s as well. However, this may only be used with Caseless weapons that use the Electrical Firing Mechanism option. It also reduces weight since the trigger hardware is removed. The benefit to the trigger is there is no "jerk" of the trigger (the physical action of pulling the trigger, shooters know this one), there is a -1 modifier at long range, and an additional -2 modifier at Extreme range. Most commonly used on sniper rifles, but may be mounted on all types. [civ]
Design Cost: +150 Weight Factor: -0.10 Conceal Factor: NA Max Rating: NA
Supermachine gun: This modification is used to make weapons the "supermachinegun" fire rate common to the Ares HVAR/HV-LMG and the Ingram SuperMach 100 SMG. [mil]
Design Cost: +300 Weight Factor: 0 Conceal Factor: 0 Max Rating: NA
TAG (Travilla Arms Group) Rail Mount: This puts the infamous TAG rail mount in the forearm grip of the weapon. Note this takes up the Under slot. The Rail Mount allows users to install various systems (see below) on a quick change mount. It requires a Simple Action to install/remove the associated item. This was originally created by Paul J. Adam. [sec]
Design Cost: +50 Weight Factor: +0.5 Conceal Factor: 0 Max Rating: NA
Variable Gas System: Used only on the MP2000/2057, this allows different settings on the weapon, allowing the weapon to take advantage of a sound suppressor or silencer. When in the Low setting, reduce all ranges by 20% and decrease the Power of the weapon by 1 due to the reduced velocity, the High setting is the normal gas pressure of the weapon. The setting can be smartlinked (+5 DP) as well. When used with either a suppressor or silencer, add +2 to all Perception tests when in the Low setting.[mil]
Design Cost: +20 (+25 for smartlinked) Weight Factor: NA Conceal Factor: NA Max Rating:
Vertical Handgrip: This is quite simply a handle attached to the forward portion of a weapon, commonly found on Submachineguns and carbines, as well as rifles, examples being the AUG, Steyr TMP, mod kits for the M4, even as far as the M60E3, and Ultimax 100. When used, it gives a -1 due to the controllability offered when used in a more stable grip. [sec]
Design Cost: +20 Weight Factor: +.5 Connceal Factor: -1 Max Rating: NA
Weapon Modifications (non FCG)
Carbine Range Table
For those who deal with the Firearms Creation Guide realize that there isn't a range table for the Carbine. Kinda pointless since carbines are a staple of most armies (currenlty there are a few though, most notable to me is the M4). I've discussed this with Raygun, but I feel that this should be at least a start:
Short
Medium
Long
Extreme
0-70
71-180
181-250
251-500
While some may debate, I feel that this is at least reasonable for most people. For those who feel differently, drop me a line and we'll see what we can do.
Double Clip Modification
Like the IMI Gamadii (from Solo of Fortune 2 (CP2020), this modification allows users to use two clips on the same weapon. Pistols and pistol-style SMGs (i.e., the Ingram Smartgun, Uzi, a typical handgun) add a +1 modifier to the Target number because the grip is a little bigger than normal, customized weapons can reduce this modifier. Weapons that do not have a magazine in the grip do not receive
this modifier. To perform the modification, the character must make a Firearms B/R(8) Test that requires a Firearms shop and six hours, which
can be reduced by successes.
