02/12/2001: San Antonio

San Antonio is a largish city about an hour and a half drive south of Austin. The river running through the city used to flood, so they diverted it, and converted the remaining bit into a cafe/shopping centre called The Riverwalk.

We had hot chocolate, and this is the view from the restaurant.

These boats are used to show tourists around the river in San Antonio. They travel in packs for safety! It was raining, so we didn't get to go on one.

Bizzare, the water level of the river is about 1.5 meters above the ground level of these offices.

The stage area is used to perform historical/informational plays.

Part of The Riverwalk is La Villita, which is full of art and craft type shops.

Patrick watching a kelaidascope being built. When we said we were going to New York, this man said "My father once went to New York in World War One. He said he had to look up three times to see the tops of the buildings!"
