11/12/2001: St Albans

Quite an historical town. There was a Roman city here (though we
didn't go to see it, so no photos here)

I would have thought it was fairly obvious
that you shouldn't park here!

The clock tower on the high street

There's this bizzare plaque on the clocktower wall
Was it a common occurrance for bodies to go on holidays in the Middle Ages?

Ye Olde Fighting Cocks is thought to be
England's oldest surviving pub (running since the 12th century)

Its history.

Construction of St Albans Cathedral started in 1077
There are still paintings from the 13th century on the walls.
We've just discovered that there's a copy of the Magna Carta hanging
in the cathedral - but we didn't notice it!
(The most important document in English history, and we missed it.
Might get another chance after Christmas)

The gatehouse near the cathedral, now part of the adjoining school.

Haven't these people heard of architects?
Who on the local council approved this construction?

Time: 15:40. Happening: Sunset.
