21/12/2001: Tintagel

On the rugged Welsh coast...

is Tintagel, leagendary birthplace of King Arthur
(though, there's not much left now)

Apparently, it used to look like this.

The way up to the island part is 'interesting'
(That's the door in the tower at top-right)

You can see where the old path used to be.
The new path was built around 1976 when the old cliffs collapsed into the ocean.

Looking down to the beach where they used to unload ships

The hand-hewn storage tunnel

Middle-age houses, on the cliff edge - some view!

All possible safety precautions have been implemented

The way down - step out onto the 50cm wide ledge,
overlooking the 150m drop

The only way to recover in Cornwall - eat a pastie!
