12/01/2002: Penang

Actually our second day in Penang.
(We were too jet-lagged on day one to actually do anything)
We headed off with a family friend to see a few of the more famous temples

The Reclining Buddah is one of the largest in the world

The hill temple is picturesque

As you head up to the temple, you pass through the gardens...

...and through the new prayer hall

From the top of the tower, you can see the entire complex....

...and old farms on the hillside...

...and the large Buddah statue
(apprarently, it was taller, but when other religious groups complained, it was lowered!)

As you leave the tower, you can ring the bell and say a prayer

Locals leave turtles at the temple to bring good luck
(not sure about the turtles luck though)
