Venture
so far...
Where do I start? Venture
started as a harebrained scheme in the spring of 1998 and went into
production very shortly afterwards. In Early June of 1999 Venture
#1 was released to a throng of adoring fans. Okay, well my mom liked
it, anyway. She thought it was cute. We did a run of 100 books that
we printed during an all-night Kinko's fest and in our delusion,
we thought that perhaps someone might want signed, numbered originals.
Maybe when we're famous that'll push the value through the roof.
Until then, I guess we can nurse the soreness out of our deluded
wrists. I know it all sounds a little crazy, considering that we
were both poor, starving college artists at the time, but I kept
pushing Kurt and he kept drawing for me. If you could see some of
the exquisite pencils that I saw, you'd have held onto this dream,
too. Kurt is amazing. Okay, history on us aside. On to the story.
Venture #1 is the tale of
the first meeting of our two heroes, Rodric and Kiria. Without giving
away too much of the story, I can tell you that their first meeting
is none too friendly, and during their second meeting we get to
see some of the finer points of close-quarters fighting with kitchen
utensils. It's all pretty exciting.
In the immediate future we
can expect to meet some pretty sinister villains bent on taking
over the crime business in the city and maybe on destroying all
venture-sensitive people in it. Look for an assassination to start
out issue #2 followed immediately by a daring escape. Might there
be some detectives involved in this storyline, too? It's just too
early to tell.
Longterm thoughts.... well, now I'm expecting the first story arc
to take between five and seven issues, depending on lots of things
(like how long it takes us to do an issue and how much i continue
to enjoy and feel rewarded by the project as a whole). Look to see
a lot more of Kiria and Rodric as they do battle with some pretty
heavy hitters in the underground world of crime. Look for the crime
bosses to get more powerful and for Kiria to really get the hang
of the phenomenal gift she has.
I hope I've given you something to whet your appetite, and I'm
looking forward to hearing your comments on the book once you've
seen it. Check out the main page for contact information.
