Thank you for downloading the new version 3.1 aircraft of my Airbus A321. You may think that it took a long time (more than three months) to finish a new version. By flying this aircraft model you may find out that this is not an update to my previous A321 versions; it is even more than an upgrade. The complete visual model was reworked; the fuselage and the engines were rounded due to the new technique of Abacus' Aircraft Factory 99, the wings and several stabalizers were redesigned to give the airplane a complete new look. Due to the new features of Abacus' AF99 it was also possible to place new and MORE textures than with previous designs. So you may find textured bay doors or textured horizontal stabalizers giving the aircraft a more realistic look. Not only the visual model of the aircraft was re-designed but I have also tried to make flying with the A321 more realistic too. In short: this aircraft has completely reworked flight dynamics. Especially, I wanted to simulate the fuel tanks at those positions of the real A321 as well as original fuel consuptions of the airplane which was not always easy to do as I did not have detailed informations about fuel consumption of the real life Airbus A321. So I decided to fix the consumption for my model at 3,000 liters per hour which I thought is acceptable for flight simulation use as FS98 does not support the consumption during take off. It is a hard job to be an aircraft designer because it is not easy to receive an airplane that everyone likes. I can only tell you from my point of view that I try to make aircraft from version 3.1 on visually and from the flight model as real as it could get in FS. So if you do not like the one thing or the other please report it to me by sending me an e-mail. I try to do the best possible to keep the high quality of my aircraft. I hope that you understand that I am unable to release small updates uploading them to FS servers around the world. So there will be no updates but if I have found a problem concerning the visual or the flight model a new version - depending on the grade of change - will be only available at Austrian Aircraft Factory. Changes will be announced at the AAF news section. Or you take a look at my partnersite FS Austria which will always be up to date as well.
Please read this carefully to avoid problems while flying the Spanair Airbus A321-200! In order to make flying with this new A321 model aircraft more realistic you should not here the flaps sound while extending or retracting them. In real life the pilots do not hear the flaps moving too. The pilots only recognize the 'click' when positioning the flaps. To make this model even more realistic, extract the SOUND.CFG from the directory NEW_SOUND.CFG to the SOUND folder of the the B737-400 directory. It was tested with the standard B737 panel and sound as well as with FPDA's A320 panel. Please take a look at the following flaps positions and the refering speeds: take-off     Vr (1+F):  140 kts     V2 (1+F): 155 kts cruising     Cruising speed of the Airbus A321 is 0.78 mach, maximum speed is 0.82 mach.     No flaps are set during cruise. landing     1+F:   210-190 kts     2+F:   190-170 kts     3+F:   170-155 kts     FULL: 155-130 kts The 'real' Airbus A321 has a take-off speed of between 135 kts and 150 kts depending on loading, wind speeds etc. The values in brakets are the flap positions used during test run. They are for your general information only, so please do not rely on it as they are only about-values.

Since I am designing aircraft there have been several persons involved in my projects providing me with tips, images of the real aircraft and testflying my airplanes. So I want to thank my good friend Andreas Waclavicek and Herbert Heissenberger for their help and feedback. Of course I'd like to thank all those who were test pilots of this new A321 model: Peter Bauer and Philip Zajicek. Especially Peter Bauer Philip and Zajicek were a great help with the flight dynamics model by describing me how a real life Airbus A321-111 flies. Last but not least there is Michael Mrak and Austrian Virtual Airlines as well as Holger Ludwig who have always supported my work. Without the help of these persons I would not have been able to finish this project. Thanks a lot.
Fly save and kindest regards from Vienna/Austria Vienna, February 2000.
