Avril Lavigne claims to be the Anti-Britney Spears. But she might want to chum up, because her and Britney have more in common than she may think.

Who's the girl that everyone's talking about? The one who's supposed to be original, talented, and the future rock and roll queen. After all of the hype the product would have to be sufficient, wouldn't it?

Looks just like The Lord of the Rings, I was wrong about this one. The 17 year old Canadian's debut album, Let Go, isn't all that it's cracked up to be. All that the self proclaimed skater punk manages to do is churn out one meaningless line after another. You might be slightly impressed for a while, that is until you decide to listen to the lyrics. Then you see it for what it really is. The mindless rantings and whining of a preppy teenage girl.

The fact is that there's nothing special about Avril Lavigne. She's just another girl with a pretty face who can carry a tune and wrote some angry poetry when she was in the 8th grade about how her good for nothing boyfriend dumped her. Only this one is draped in Hot Topic clothes, and has a few tired electric guitar skills (She's admitted that doesn't even know how to read the notes). Who does she think that she's fooling?

Avril is constantly being compared with big names such as Natalie Imbruglia, Vanessa Carlton, Alanis Morissette, and Michelle Branch. There lie two problems. One is that she can't decide who she wants to be. One moment she's singing poppy Britney Spears type songs like Complicated, the next she's singing a soft ballad (Tomorrow), and she even goes as far as rapping in Nobody's Fool. The second problem is that it shows that there's nothing original about her. In fact, it's slightly insulting to the other four women because they, unlike her, have some talent.

All of the fuss over the CD might make you fool yourself into thinking that you're listening to quality, but you're really just listening to mind numbingly idiotic tripe sung to a tune.
