In the Press

In this section, you will find selections from press articles focusing on various members of the Flyers. I'll try to rotate the quotes and pics fairly often.

Gagné's All-Star Weekend

"Simon Gagné's English has improved considerably in his two seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers. And this being hockey, the expression he has learned to describe how he felt when the Quebec Nordiques moved to Denver is appropriate for talk radio, not a newspaper. Let's just say he was mad."--Terry Frei, Denver Post

'Simon Gagné, 20-year-old burgeoning celebrity and the youngest guy to wear All-Star colors, took a look around a crowded Pepsi Center interview room yesterday and couldn't help but feel ... well, young again. "Just to come here and sit on the bench and be on the ice is good. I just want to do a good show," second-year Flyer and debuting star Gagné said in anticipation of today's NHL All-Star Game. "Just being with a guy like Joe Sakic in the same room is special for me. When I was young, I never had a chance to meet him. So it's going to be special. I feel like a kid a little bit again."'--Rob Parent, The Delaware County Times

"Flyers winger Simon Gagné came off the ice after Wednesday's morning skate in Pittsburgh and said he had never met one of his childhood idols, Mario Lemieux. That night, the 20-year-old Ste. Foy, Quebec, native played against Lemieux for the first time, but didn't get to talk with him during the Flyers' 5-1 rout of the team owned by the big No. 66. Four days later, Gagné was playing on a North American line with Lemieux in the All-Star Game. And Gagné had two goals in the North Americans' 14-12 victory at the Pepsi Center. What's next for Gagné? Disneyland?"--Terry Frei, Denver Post

Simon Gagné isn't going to Disneyland or anything. He wasn't the MVP in the NHL All-Star Game, didn't win a car, won't be totin' home a trophy. But you still have to ask the question after Sunday: Now what? Where can he possibly go from here? How much better can it get? The kid is 20 years old, and he's just played in his first All-Star game on a line with Mario Lemieux and scored a pair of goals. One of them was the game-winner in the North American team's 14-12 victory. Where can he go from here? There is only one answer: Into one of the most promising careers in hockey.--Michael Knisley, The Sporting News

"It's always fun to see the young kids. I thought Simon Gagné was outstanding. He has tremendous skill and made some beautiful plays. It's hard to believe he's only been in the league a year-and-a-half. He scores his first All-Star Game goal and it's assisted by Brett Hull and Mario Lemieux. Do you think he's ever going to forget that? You bet he won't."--Brian Engblom, ESPN.com

His name means "won" in French, and it is what Simon Gagné makes the Philadelphia Flyers feel has happened to them.--Wes Goldstein, Sportsline.com
