The Pointless Episode
Ep. 4, Season 2

By Lady Dragonspaw

Katrina sat with all the other sailor scouts at Amarus' house. They were having an informal meeting to talk about the cards they had all received in the mail. It was about some class they had been selected to take. Apparently they were all part of the randomly selected twenty high school students and 5 elementary students to take the class. Back to the room. Amarus sat reading 'Angel Sanctuary', Ana sat flipping a ninja star in the air, Janine sat staring at the star, Katrina sat reading 'Dark of the Moon' , Chrissy sat eating popcorn balls and a chocolate bunny with one of Katrina's books forgotten in her lap, Mary sat reading 'Alanna: the first adventure', Maria sat doing her homework, and since Sandi and Bri were off on their spring vacation that was everyone. Sandi and Bri saved money by just flying as dragons. All was silent when Ana said, "Well. It is kind of suspicious. Maybe it has something to do with the enemy."
Mary replied, "True. We should ask the guardians about this. Have you seen them around?"
Katrina said, "Shadow mumbled something about a guardian resort thing. I guess that's where they all are."
Amarus' hand snaked out and grabbed the ninja star Ana was still flipping in midair without raising her head from the book. She said, "Stop that. It's getting annoying."
Ana said, "What else is there to do?"
Amarus sighed. She suggested, "Why not have a contest? I'm pretty good with ninja stars. Let's use it on that wall over there."
Ana was bored out of her mind so she agreed. She used her powers to make a sheet of ice with score board marking on the wall. Then Amarus and Ana started taking turns throwing the star. The other scouts were pretty absorbed and didn't notice for a few seconds that a sharp ninja star was flying over their heads. When they did they quickly scrambled out of the house. Now that they were outside they had no idea what to do. Katrina said, "Hey why don't we go find Steve's house? I know the address."
So our heroines wandered for a few blocks until Mary asked, "Katrina, you do know how to get to his house right?"
Katrina assumed the innocent look and said, "Well it must be around here somewhere."
Chrissy said, "C'mon Katrina. Do you have any idea where his house is?"
Katrina looked sheepish and said, "No. I thought one of you guys might know the street."
Janine laughed and said, "That sounds like something Chrissy would do."
Maria said, "How about we look for someone we can ask directions from?"
Mary replied, "That is a good idea. Katrina look around."
Katrina half shouted, "Why me?" Janine replied, "Because this was your idea."
Katrina grumbled. Then she stopped. She abruptly said, "Hey I know this guy!"
Chrissy said, "What guy?" Katrina said, "Look at that sign that says, 'A member of Dementerville High School Marching band lives here.' Then it says, 'Gary Naxen'."
Maria questioned, "Should we be asking almost strangers?"
Chrissy said, "It's not that bad. But who will knock on the door?"
Mary replied, "Good question. I do not believe any of us wants to knock on the door."
Janine said, "Okay. Let's make Katrina do it."
Katrina backed away from the rest and exclaimed, "What?"
Grabbing her by the arms they dragged her to the door. She knocked. They all waited nervously for a moment. Then Gary came to the door. Katrina said, "Hi, we were wondering where Forest Avenue is. Do you know?"
Gary said, "Well, I don't think I've heard of it. Are you sure it's around here?"
Katrina said, "I think so."
Gary said, "Hold on a second," and went back into the house. Katrina looked at the other girls. They seemed fairly nervous. But Maria looked pretty scared. Katrina nudged Chrissy and pointed at Maria. Chrissy took the hint and asked Maria what was wrong. Maria said timidly, "Well…. In the future you and daddy are very protective of me. So I haven't been around very many strange older guys."
Chrissy said, "Is that all? You don't need to worry. Gary is a nice guy or Katrina wouldn't be friends with him. Besides, you're with us. You'll be fine."
Maria calmed down a little. Then they heard Gary asking them to come on in. They all froze. Should they go into this guy's house? After Gary repeated the offer a few times they finally went in. Pausing nervously in the front room they looked around. It was a nice house. Chrissy spotted something across the room. She said, "Ooh. Candy," as soon as she said that Janine and Mary grabbed her arm to restrain her from running over to the candy. The group walked into the kitchen, which held a computer and Gary looking at a map site. Gary printed out the map. He asked with curiosity, "How come you know your friend's address but not where the street is?"
Chrissy snatched the map from him as Katrina mentally stumbled for an explanation. They needed one that didn't make them look like stalkers. Katrina made the mistake of blurting, "Draco Knight."
Janine came to the rescue, "Look over there!"
Chrissy chimed in, "My gosh! Fire bunnies from outer space!!"
Mary said, "Uh, sorry. We have to go."
Katrina yelled as they all ran, "Bye. Thanks for the help!"
Gary first looked over his shoulder out the window at the clear sky and then after the girls. He had a puzzled expression on his face. After briefly wondering what that was all about he dismissed it.
They were a block or so away when they stopped running. Maria asked, "What just happened?"
Janine said, "Well our leader here, nearly blew our cover."
Maria said, "Oh, I see… Katrina! What did you do that for?"
Katrina looked sheepish and replied, "It was an accident. Sorry. Now how about we start going?"
Chrissy said, "Right. Now I have the map so all I need to do is find this street." Chrissy started turning the map around.
Janine said, "Okay. That sounds like a good idea."
Chrissy went on, "Well… I need to find this street… Uh… Why is this in Russian and where is this street?!"
Mary jerked the map out of Chrissy's hands and said, "You were reading it upside down. Now… We are here," She pointed to the map, the only one who looked was Maria. "We need to go here," She pointed to the map again and yet again only Maria looked at the map with her.
So, Mary started walking and everyone followed her like a group of rabid ducklings. (Rabid because most ducklings don't usually hit each other or try to push each other into the street as often as they did.)
Mary said, "Now everyone look for this street. We turn off Mohican Way when we get to it."
One Hour later…
Chrissy said, "I need to go to the bathroom. Are we there yet?"
Maria chimed in, "Yeah. I'm tired."
Mary said, "Well… We're still on Mohican Way. The map was wrong! We never saw the street it was talking about and saw some it never mentions, and this street goes in a big circle! Argh!"
Chrissy said, just to be safe, "It wasn't my fault." Then she went to play in a big puddle in the gutter. Janine walked over after glancing at the map and joined Chrissy. Maria sat down a leaned against a tree, Katrina wandered into the empty street, and Mary stood still intently looking at the map. Katrina looked at a big house across the street and said, "Oooh. That's a cool house. Let's knock on their door and tell them it's cool."
Janine said, "Maybe that's not such a good idea."
Maria said, "Yeah. They might not like that."
Katrina said, "Why not? Doesn't everyone like to get compliments?"
Mary said absently, "If you really want to tell them go knock on the door yourself."
Katrina said, "Um… Maybe it's not a good idea after all. Okay, let's go! Wait a minute. Where are we?"
Mary replied, "Mohican Way."
Maria asked, "But weren't we on this street a while ago?"
Janine asked, "How'd this happen?"
Chrissy wailed, "We're lost!"
Mary replied indignantly, "We are not lost. I know exactly where we are. You are lost if you don't know where you are. The only thing we don't know is how we got here."
Chrissy wailed again, "I knew it! We're lost!"
Maria said, "Shut… Uh. Be quiet!"
Janine added, "You heard Maria, Chrissy. Shush," and with that Janine splashed her. A little splashing war ensued after that.
Mary figured out a way for them to get off this street and another way they could get to their destination. So the group set off with new determination. Only a few whines about needing to go to the bathroom were heard. As they were walking all of a sudden two red heads popped out of no where. Katrina was surprised enough to fall over into some grass in someone's yard. Chrissy started laughing so Katrina knocked her down onto the grass and looked to see who the pair was. It was Bri and Sandi! They both had tans. Katrina jumped up and said, "Hey guys! I thought you were still in Florida. When did you get back?"
Bri said, "We would have stayed longer but Bruce got a little sun burn. He and Reepy said they liked Florida better than the resort."
Sandi added, "Yeah. Don't worry it's not bad at all and he has Reepy fawning all over him back at my house." Everyone laughed.
Janine asked, "How'd you guys find us?"
Bri said, "Well it was pretty boring when we got back so we went looking for you guys and found Amarus and Ana. Oh, by the way the two of them are really good at throwing ninja stars. I think they were starting to get a little too competitive when we got there. There was a war brewing."
Sandi said, "Do you want to go on with the story or should I?"
Bri said, "Oh yeah. So, we went out flying for you guys and saw you."
Sandi finally got to looking everyone over and then asked, "Janine, Chrissy, why are you guys soaked?"
Chrissy said, "We had a war of our own. With a puddle! It was fun. Hey let me tell you about how we got lost!"
Mary said, "We weren't lost, we knew exactly where we were."
Katrina said, "Okay. Let's keep going, we're almost there."
Bri said, after they started walking, "Where are we going anyway?"
Maria said, "Katrina wants to go to Steve's house so we got a map off the Internet to find it. I wonder if Daddy will be there."
Chrissy who after she had finished filling Sandi and Bri in with the details was getting bored cheered up. Chrissy almost shouted, "You mean Zach could be there? Cool! But I'm wet. Janine look what you did to me!"
Katrina said, "Well if Zach is there all the other guys are likely to be there."
Mary said, "Well it's beginning to look as if that's not a factor. I think Gary typed the address in wrong. Didn't you say the house number had four digits?"
Katrina said, "Yeah."
Mary went on, "Well according to the map his house is just up ahead, but these numbers are all only three digits."
Katrina figured out what Mary meant and said, "Oh! Well, if you're right…. We'll there's a group of stores around here right?"
Chrissy said, "That's right. It's a little farther down the street. One of the stores puts out free popcorn once a week."
Maria asked, "That's how you remember where stores are? Because of the food they give you?"
Chrissy said, "Of course, why else would I remember them?"
Maria said, "Well… You certainly change a lot."
Chrissy said, with a hint of threat, "Do I, now?"
Sandi said, interrupting, "Break it up you two. If you're going to fight, you might as well make it an official duel."
Mary said, "I was right. See that's where the map says his house is. But you said four numbers in the address and these houses only have three."
Katrina said, "You're right. Oh, well. I wasn't sure we'd find his house anyway. Oooh! You can see the pet store from here! Let's go there!"
Chrissy said, "Cool. Let's go look at the kitties!"
Maria added, "And the bunnies!"
Bri said, "Don't forget the gerbils!"
Janine said, "Too bad they don't have horses. Maybe I could find some kind of treat for Shifty or something."
Sandi said, "Okay. It's decided. Let's get moving already."
At Steve's house…
All the guys were hanging out at Steve's house and Kyle suddenly said, "I think the girls are coming over."
Zach asked, "That'd be weird, they don't even know where Steve's house is."
Christian chimed in, "Well, maybe they're thinking about coming over."
Steve said, "They'd better not come here. My house is too ugly. So even if they ask, none of them are coming over."
Raoul asked, "Kyle, how do you uh… know they're trying to come over?"
Alex said, "Don't you remember? They're twins so they probably have connections."
Raoul said, "Oh."
Kyle said after a pause, "Don't worry about it. The feeling went away."
Back to the girls…
Everyone is playing with the cute animals in the pet shop when Chrissy suddenly notices Janine isn't there. Chrissy asked, "Where's Janine?"
Katrina said, "Maybe we should go look for her."
Bri said, "Oh. I saw her go across the street into that store over there." Bri absently pointed across the street and went back to cuddling with a gerbil.
Sandi said, "Bri and I had better stay here… to do uhh… well you know, important stuff." Sandi also had a cute gerbil in her hands.
Maria said, "Oh, and I'll help them," she kept cuddling with a gray rabbit.
Katrina, Mary, and Chrissy all walked across the street. The store there was a pawnshop. They wondered what she could possibly want in there. When they walked in they found Janine talking to the shopkeeper. They heard her as she said, "Well, this is no ordinary pen. It's magical and with the proper words will transform you into an elite fighter for justice. Not only that…"
Wait a minute. Was she trying to sell her transformation pen?
The shop owner said, "I'll give you five dollars for it. Nobody will believe any magic tale. It could only sell as a pretty pen."
Janine considered a moment until Chrissy grabbed her arm from behind. Janine laughed nervously as she looked at the group.
Mary asked, "What are you doing, Janine?"
Katrina looked at the shopkeeper when Janine hadn't answered after a moment. Katrina asked, "What was she doing?"
The shopkeeper, a man in his sixties that had a grandfather like personality said, "Well, she was trying to sell me that pen there. We all know Janine pretty well here, she comes in every couple of days and drives a hard bargain. But she's a nice girl," after a pause, "She's not stealing is she?"
Chrissy said, "Oh no. Nothing like that. It's just… the pen was… uh… a present. We need to talk to Janine for a moment."
The group walked over to a corner and started to talk at once. Janine held up her hands and said, "One at a time."
Mary asked, with concern, "You aren't having money troubles are you?"
Janine looked down at her shoes and said, "Well… A little."
Katrina said, "You could have asked. We would have helped you."
Chrissy said, "I would have helped you ou- Ooh! Shiny thing," She ran off towards where she pointed.
Mary said, "How serious are these problems?"
Janine bit her lip and said after a pause, "Well I only have ten thousand five hundred and six cents in my personal bank account. I feel so poor."
Katrina's eyes widened at the amount, she and was confused. She said, "Um… So you need to spend it on something then?"
Janine looked shocked and exclaimed, "What are you saying? I'd never do that. Spend my precious wonderful sweet darling money. That'd just be so wrong!"
Katrina had always thought of Janine as one of the more sane people in the group. Obviously she was wrong in that opinion. Katrina said, "Okay Janine. You don't need to spend any of your money. Just don't sell your pen. That's not allowed. Understand?"
Janine said, "Do you mean my precious wonderful sweet darling money?"
Katrina replied, "Yes I mean your precious great… uh money. You know what I mean. Absolutely no selling of your super powers! Understand?"
Janine sighed and said, "Okay."
Mary asked urgently, "We're done now right?"
Katrina said, "Yeah."
Mary smiled and said, "Great. I see some trumpets over there. I shall go look at them."
Katrina shrugged and wandered off to look at stuff too. Janine went back to the shopkeeper and pulled out something different from a pocket. Katrina walked over and asked quietly, "How'd that fit in your pocket?"
Janine smiled and said, "Bri taught me a thing or two. It really comes in handy."
Katrina said, "I bet. I need her to teach me that trick." Then Katrina saw a glaive for sale. She went over to it and started admiring it.
That night…
All the girls walked into Amarus' house and all the guardians had come back from their day out. Amarus and Ana were playing video games they hadn't had a clear-cut winner in all their battles. The war was still going on. Shadow, Snowy, and Emily were playing an elaborate game of tag with aerobatics as only cats can perform. Bruce was making a show of being in pain but stopped when he noticed that Reepicheep wasn't paying any attention. In fact she was yelling at Sandi. She shouted, "What were you doing with those other gerbils?"
Sandi said soothingly, "Don't worry. I was just visiting. They're cute, but they aren't you. I'd never try to replace you. So you don't need to worry."
Reepicheep calmed down a moment and with a small bite to Sandi's finger, Sandi was forgiven. Maria sat down and played with Ariella a little before falling asleep. Ana said, "Maria's asleep and it's getting late. We'd all better go home."
Amarus said, "Hmph Do you admit I'm better than you are?"
Ana said, "Of course not. We'll just have to fight later."
Amarus grumbled and everyone else arranged to get to their own homes.
Back when the girls went back to school…
All the girls, the guys, and a few other high school students were assembled in a large classroom with five elementary students. This class didn't have any desks in it. It was often used as a gym room. One of them was Maria. Everyone started talking in hushed tones. Steve asked, "Katrina, did Shadow tell you anything about this class?"
Katrina said, "When I told her we suspected it might be a bad guy conspiracy she just laughed."
Mary added, "When I asked Zalla, he said that I'd find out. It's so weird. He always tells me everything. Except… that there were other sailors. Hmm… I wonder if there is more that he has never talked about."
Raoul said, "That is weird."
Chrissy said, "I wish I could ask Emily to tell me something but… well you know."
Zach nodded in sympathy.
Maria said, "Daddy. Ariella won't tell me anything except it's a good surprise."
Zach looked a little uncomfortable being called 'Daddy'. But shrugged it off.
Ana said, "It's so frustrating. Snowy and I share everything. Why not this?!"
Christian smiled reassuringly and suggested, "Well, maybe it's a test."
Ana said, "Oh. That's an idea. Thanks."
Amarus said haughtily, "Well Cronus tells me everything he knows."
Sandi leaned forward and asked, "What does he know?"
Amarus slumped a little and said slowly, "Well… He doesn't know anything."
Sandi sighed and leaned back in her chair.
Bri said, "That's great. None of us have any idea."
Alex replied, "Well, at least we're all together and since none of the guys have transformed we're probably safe."
Kyle said, "That's a good point about none of us transforming. Although I wouldn't be able to talk… I wish I could transform."
Janine had been raptly watching Kyle, at hearing his voice she blinked. Then she said, "Oh, don't worry Kyle. I'm sure you'll transform. Until then remember that you are still really helpful, smart, and cool."
Kyle blushed and said, "Thanks."
Katrina noticed that interchange and filed it away as information to remember. She couldn't say anything right then because the teacher had stood up. The teacher began speaking, he said, "Good day students. I am your teacher in this class; my name is Ms. Good. Now you may wonder how you were selected for this class. You were the randomly selected from the top twenty percent of your school. As you may notice there is an age difference between some of you. I've been told that the reason for that is to see if this is a better way of teaching. Enough talking about why you're here. Let's talk about what we're going to do. This is a class on sword fighting. You will be the trial class if the class goes well enough in a few years they might teach everyone sword fighting. This class will not be taught with foils, the very slender fencing swords but swords akin to samurai swords. A wealthy donor who wishes not to be named has donated enough money for equipment, so that each of you will be able to get a sword of your one for free. Now, there are some basic rules about how to handle these swords," she now pointed to a big pile of boxes behind her. She started passing out the boxes so each student had one. She went on, "You may not use these out of class, or you will be removed from class, have your sword removed, and be charged legally for whatever crime you were undoubtedly breaking. I expect nothing but the best of behavior from all of you…." Ms. Good's voice faded from everyone's ears as they pulled out their swords. Katrina looked at the sword in her hand and felt somehow like she was part of a great storm. Katrina felt that this sword had to belong to Janine and handed it to her (hilt first of course). Such swapping went on among the senshi and the guys until everyone felt at home with their swords. After everyone put their swords in sheathes off their hips Ms. Good noticed something.
Ms. Good said, "Oh my. It seems that there is an extra sword. That is so odd. I'll keep it up here in its box."
While Ms. Good stood in front of the class talking about how to properly unsheathe your sword Amarus was getting bored. So was everyone else. Amarus was the only one with an idea about how to be entertained though. She leaned towards Katrina and said, "You know… Mary was telling me how Polar Bears are great big fat losers and that Panda Bears were great. What do you think of that?"
Our slightly impulsive and also bored Katrina leapt up and shouted, "Mary, Polar Bears are the greatest and far better than Panda Bears. Mine could eat yours any day."
Mary jumped up and shouted back, "Ha! In your dreams maybe." At the same moment they both pulled out their swords and took a swing at each other. (Note to reader: do not try this at home) Their swords hit each other with a loud ringing noise that drew everyone's attention. Those who weren't staring at the yelling pair in the first place anyway. They began a flurry of swings at each other. Each time they hit the other's blade. While their blades were ringing from the blows they continued to shout which about how their bear was obviously superior to the other's. Ms. Good's first statement was, "I knew this class would come to no good." She and the rest of the class tried to stay out of Mary and Katrina's way. Ms. Good kept yelling for them to calm down and settle this with words, not blades. After a little while and a whole bunch of impressive back flips and such the girls started listening to Ms. Good. They began to think that maybe their teacher was right. They finally stopped attacking and held their swords pointed to the ground and they looked for an impartial judged. Chrissy was the closest to them. Everyone else was pretty close to melting into the wall if they could. Mary said, "Chrissy we want to ask you something."
Katrina said, "Yeah. Chrissy which is better: Panda Bears or Polar Bears?"
Ms. Good was hoping that Chrissy would find a way to keep the situation calm. However it was obvious from this vain hope that she didn't know Chrissy well at all.
Chrissy considered for a moment very seriously and then said, "Well… To be honest, both those bears are pretty boring. Koala Bears are by far the best."
Mary and Katrina were shocked and outraged. They looked from Chrissy to each other. Then an evil grin stole over Mary's face and Katrina reached up and tugged on her own hair. They nodded and that same evil grin went over Katrina's face. Then in a twin blur of motion the pair each looped a pigtail around their blade and sliced off her hair at the upper-back. On the floor lay a good foot of hair from each pigtail; her hair had been to her hips before. (my word, those are sharp blades) Chrissy stared at her hair on the floor in horror and then screamed in rage. Then Chrissy pulled out her sword and a real battle began between all three. The temporary truce between Mary and Katrina was over and this sword fight was a free for all between the three. Between the flips and flying kicks they were one great blur to the teacher. Finally they all sat down too tired to move. Katrina said, "Well I guess we each believe our bear to be the best. As we just saw though, fighting about it didn't help us at all."
Mary said, "All three of us are too stubborn to ever change our minds so I guess I will just put up with you guys not believing the truth about Panda Bears."
Chrissy said, "I'm okay about the bear thing but I might just get you for my hair. My beautiful exquisite hair. I'll just do it later… when I'm awake."
Janine added peeking out from behind Kyle, "Would this be a good time to tell you that I think Teddy Bears are the best?"
She earned a glare from the three but they didn't move. The teacher briskly said, "Well thank you girls. You see class I arranged this show to teach you something. To teach you that you can't use these swords to resolve your problems. Now girls I want to talk to about what a great example you were to the class out in the hall." With that she pulled the three up to their feet, had them re-sheathe their swords and go out into the all with her.
After they were gone Amarus started grumbling. Kyle asked her, "Amarus, did the teacher just make all that up?"
Amarus said, "Of course. Drat that teacher. She spoiled my fun by making it into a lesson."
Janine asked, "So you caused all that?"
Amarus sensed that if she didn't do some covering up she might get in a good deal of trouble for the mess she'd caused. And she didn't want that much trouble. She said, "Not exactly. I was just having a friendly chat with Katrina. You know the new me. Friendly, that's who I am."
Zach picked up the pieces of Chrissy's hair and tied it together. He said, "Poor Chrissy. I hope she doesn't take losing her hair to hard. Having it cut off by two of your good friends wouldn't help any."
Maria said, "Don't worry about it. She'll get over it."
Kyle asked, "Is it just me or does it seem like there's no point for us to get swords?"
Raoul said, "Yeah. It's almost as if we only got it because of someone's whim."
Janine said, "Oh gosh. It couldn't be because of the guardians of us, could it? The one's who replaced You-Know-Who with Zach?"
They may never know the truth.
Out in the hall…
Ms. Good started shouting about how reckless they had been and then gasped for air. While trying to regain her breath she thought about how she was yelling at three students who appeared to be asleep while standing. Obviously this wasn't helping her cause too much. So she said, "Okay. We're going down to the office. Hello? Wake up! I said we're going down to the office." She turned and started walking to the office with our heroines in tow. While they were walking Katrina pulled out three big pieces of candy and handed one to each of the others. A whispered explanation of "Steve taught me this trick" was all that was said on that journey to the office.
In the Principal's office…
The principal leveled a gaze at all three and then asked Ms. Good what had happened. After hearing the story he said, "Well… That was a good move to tell the other students it was planned but this presents us with a problem. We won't be able to tell the other teachers about this. You know how teachers can gab with their students about things such as these. Just have them 'volunteer' to do some heavy cleaning work in the science labs. A meeting with their guidance counselor about curbing their impulsive behavior might be useful too. From what their files say, these three we won't need to do any more to learn their lesson. Okay. Now girls, I want you on your best behavior from now on. Understand?"
Knowing that they were getting away with practically no trouble at all they all nodded. Now that they were awake again thanks to Katrina's candy they had realized they could be in heaps of trouble.
The principal went on, "Now to help curb these impulses whenever you are about to take an action I want you to ask yourselves, "Is this a responcible thing for us to do?" Alright?"
The girls nodded and repeated him.
The three were working in the science labs during lunch. This was after their guidance counselor told them that before they made any decision to act they should ask themselves this question. Is this a responsible thing to do? With that sage learning under their belts they were now scrubbing out huge stone sinks with little steel wool scrubbers. Katrina had paused, thinking, when Chrissy elbowed her. Chrissy said, "Hey. I have an idea. One of my old friends told me that if you used a nine-volt battery and steel wool it'd smolder and look cool. You only touch the steel wool just a second with the battery. They said that boy scouts used it to start fires."
Katrina said admiringly, "That's sounds like it'd look really cool."
Mary said, "It sounds like something we shouldn't be doing. However if you guys will insist on doing it I'll make sure that you don't get too reckless. We can't do it though. Nobody has a nine volt battery."
Katrina pulled out her monster of a back pack and started rifling though it as she said, "I think I might." Katrina continued pulling out all sorts of weird odds and ends in her search for a battery. Out of it she pulled a miniature rubix cube, rubber snakes, two forks, a brush, hand lotion, a tiny slot machine, a rubber ducky, a worry stone, two plastic bags, one chess piece, the shreds of all of Katrina's murdered homework, and finally…. A nine volt battery.
Katrina said, "Oh wait. I feel like we're forgetting something. What is it?"
Mary said, "We're supposed to ask ourselves that question."
The three asked, "Is this a responsible thing for us to do," In unison.
Chrissy said, "No."
Katrina said, "Okay. Now with that out of the way let's try this out."
They used the nine-volt battery on a piece Chrissy's steel wool. (note: do not try this at home) It glowed a little and on the whole was very unimpressive. Deciding the problem had to be a combination of not enough steel wool and nothing would burn they decided to fix both problems at once. Using all of the shreds from Katrina's poor murdered homework they tried it. This time it was a little more impressive but not my much; and the worst was it smoked horribly. Chrissy coughed and said, "I hate smoke!"
A teacher came running to see what had happened. It was easily to see what had happened and whose fault it was. So, back to the principal's office it was.
The principal was not happy to see them back so soon. He told them as much. He went on to say that he was considering suspending them and having them taken from the sword class. Katrina suddenly had a ghost of an idea. The other two gave themselves up as goners, although Chrissy plea that it was all the chocolate's fault actually got her in a little more trouble. Katrina suggested that the principal call Steve, Ms. Good, and the teacher who'd seen them with the steel wool down to office. Katrina insisted that Steve was an important witness and would help the principal decide what to do. When Steve got there she asked him if he'd be so kind as to get some chicken so the teachers who had unfortunately been forced to skip lunch because of them could eat. Steve said that he'd be happy too and all the three adults happily munched on their chicken. They promptly felt a little dizzy and asked our, now, four what they were doing there.
Mary said innocently, "Why we just wanted to bring you some chicken for lunch. You all work so hard to teach us and all. It's a crime how you don't get enough praise for the work you do."
Chrissy said, "Yeah. We would have brought candy because of how…. Sweet you are but since you're adults we figured you would rather have some nice fried chicken."
Katrina said, "Well, we'll be going now. We hope you enjoy your chicken. Thanks for being so great!"
Steve just said, "What they said." Then they left.
Ms. Good said, "What nice children they are. Oh I remember just today I had them do a demonstration for me in my new class."
Meanwhile…
In the hall Steve said, "Wow. That was impressive. You guys handled that situation really well. I wouldn't have been able to think of giving them chicken."
Katrina said, "You're just saying that because you didn't have the chance. Thanks!" Katrina gave him a quick hug.
Mary said, "Yes, Katrina's right. Thank you for helping Steve, although I don't think I'll hug you," Katrina and Steve blushed at that comment. Mary went on, "Thank you Katrina for getting us out of that mess. It hardly matters now that you started it to begin with."
Chrissy said, "Thanks! Oh look here comes Zach and Raoul!"
Zach said, "Hi Chrissy I'm sorry about your hair. Here are the parts you lost. I picked them off the floor for you."
Chrissy blinked. She had forgotten all about her hair. She said, after a moment of thought, "Thanks. I actually like my hair better this length. C'mon everybody. Let's get some food." With that said, everyone started walking towards the lunch room. Mary filled everyone else on all the details when they went to the table and Raoul said, "I am so glad that you are now longer in trouble. I would have helped if I could have."
Mary smiled and said, "I know you would have. Thank you."
Christian said, "It's interesting to see how even without an enemy to fight we still manage to get into trouble."
Ana said, "That's true. But trouble can sometimes be fun."
Janine said, "Without trouble we'd get behind… plus we'd be really bored!"
Kyle said, "Forbid any of us get too bored. The world would suffer."
Alex said, "Well look at it this way: if we get into trouble like this a good guys; what would we be like as bad guys?"
Bri laughed and said, "We'd have destroyed the world."
Sandi said, "You can sure say that again."
Amarus remained silent and thought about something in her past. Something that had to do with good and evil. Then she shook it off and listened to the rest of the group chatter.
They might not have so many more happy days like this one in their future…. Until next time.
