First Meetings
by Dragonspaw

The first time the scouts met each other.

Prince Darien sat looking up at the stars. He wondered how his mother's treaties were going. The people of Earth had been surprised to find other civilizations to close. Since the Queen of the moon had a daughter his age one way to cement the alliance was for them to marry. He knew that his mother would never marry him off because of his problem. He wanted to die it was an all-consuming hollow part of him. They had it under control now; the strongest witches had spelled him from taking his own life. That could only do so much, he was always faintly surprised by the fact that he woke up every morning, and had not died in his sleep.
Darien thought about the princess. He decided that it most likely would be best that she didn't need to marry him. He wouldn't make a good husband. His need to die would take precedence over a likely vain and foolish girl. His looks although handsome were usually cast in intimidating forms. He rarely felt intensely. Darien had very few real friends; many were too scared of him. He did, however, need to find a girl to marry, his queen, and knew that would be difficult.
"Hello. Isn't it a beautiful night? Look at the trees, they are such a lovely shade of green."
A young girl was now standing next to him. She had long blond hair in pigtails. She was pretty but not over much, and dressed in a plain white gown.
"Look up there. The moon is so lovely. It turns everything such a strange and yet familiar silver. Where I come from everything is silver. Here everything is so bright and full of color. The lake over there matches your eyes in moonlight, isn't that odd? I suppose it isn't seeing as you live here."
"Aren't you in the least bit sacred by me? I'm a strange man you've met in the middle of the night."
"Why should I be? You are a good man."
Darien half raised his hand to his eyes. No one had told him that before, they always chatted on about how rich or strong he was. This girl was so full of life she brought it everywhere she went and shared it. Even the life weary Darien couldn't resist.
"I'll show you everything you want to see. You see, I own all this land," he added the last part as an almost test.
"Really? That's nice. What's that over there?" The girl was now pointing to the rose gardens.
Darien was partially puzzled. Who was this girl? People always fawned over him because he owned all this land. Apparently the land didn't matter to her.
"Those are rose bushes. They come in all sorts of colors," he picked a rose (no easy task) and held it out to her. She smelled it and smiled. Why had he thought her not overly pretty? She was a goddess. His life now had a reason, to serve this girl. "What's your name?"
She bestowed another smile on him and said, "Well, I was named Serenity after my mother but you can call me Serena."
"My name is Darien."
They sat smiling at each other for a time. Then a voice called for Serena and she smiled back at him as she ran. Darien decided he had found his queen. He had not settled in anyway. This girl would be his life.

Ami looked around the garden nervously. Should she be here? Oh how she yearned for home. Even being among those teasing students back home would be better. Was it Ami's fault that she inherited the Mercurian traits in a measure more than most? She had the royal hair color, blue, and was slight and small. She was also very intelligent. Ami dreaded what these moon people would think of her. The Mercurians were naturally more clever and intelligent then these people and her fellow students mocked her. Ami pulled out the hand held computer she had specially designed for herself.
Suddenly there was a blond girl sitting beside her. Ami eyes widened, she should have noticed this girl's approach. The girl was slight but taller then Ami. She had strange pigtails.
The girl spoke, "Hello, I'm Serena. What's your name?"
Ami nervously pushed a hair behind her hair in vain, the hair was too short and fell forward again. She spoke softly, "My name is Ami."
Serena spoke again, "What's that?" pointing to Ami's computer, "It's sure pretty."
Ami replied, "It's a computer I made specially."
Ami tensed waiting for the look of surprise and withdrawal from Serena. Except it didn't happen.
Serena said with excitement, "Cool. It would be so neat if I could make one of those, except I'd probably fill it with games and get behind on my lessons. Could I see it? Still maybe you could help make sure I don't break it, I can be clumsy." Serena giggled.
Ami couldn't help giggling too. The two girls would be good friends.

Rei was angry. The girl she had thought to be her friend had called her bad tempered and a royal pain in the neck. I'm not that bad! Rei was the princess of Mars. They were famous for their strong emotions and beautiful voices. Naturally as its princess she was the most true to her beliefs and had the loveliest voice. Why was it that so many people disliked her? Perhaps she was a pain. Rei began to sadden at that thought. She began to sing as she looked into the Flame Lotus. As she stopped singing she noticed a girl her own age standing nearby listening. Perhaps it was one of the moon people who were visiting today. The girl was beautiful and stood with natural grace. Her golden hair was perfect, as was her gown of white. Rei began to get angry. She imagined the girl was judging her and finding Rei lacking her perfection.
Rei turned to go. The girl said softly, "Don't go," and stepped forward and stepped on her dress as she did so tripping. Rei was surprised. The blonde girl began to laugh saying, "Oh no. Not again. Mother is always having to get new dresses made when I do this."
Rei looked at the girl again. Now she had a soft kind beauty and the motions of a child. This girl was not perfect at all. Rei said, "Hello, my name is Rei. What's yours?"
The girl said, "I'm Serena. You have such a lovely voice, I'm sure this flame flower enjoyed it. May I sit? I wouldn't want to make this dress any worse."
Rei smiled. She liked this girl; she was nice if a little silly.

Makoto held her head high in the air. She had her pride and the kingdoms to uphold. So what if many of the other Jupiterians were afraid of her strength and size. Makoto had only hurt her fellow students either when it was an accident or they deserved. Earlier today she had saved a young girl from being assaulted by some surly young men in the forest. The girl had only ran into them. As soon as they realized whom it was that they were up against they ran.
Makoto straightened her mahogany hair and blinked her deep green eyes. How much good had she done helping the girl? If she'd stayed around she would've seen what she always did. The look of gratitude in the victim's eyes dims and then become fear. She couldn't deal with that today. She spread out her picnic and morosely considered her lot.
Suddenly Makoto looked up and there was the girl she had saved. The girl was smiling.
Makoto asked, "Would you like to join me? I have enough for two."
The girl said as she sat down, "Thank you for saving me. My name is Serena. My, this food looks delicious. Did you make it? Can I really have some?"
Makoto was slightly surprised, why wasn't the girl scared? Makoto answered, "My name is Makoto. I made this food," noticing how Serena was wolfing down the food she asked, "When was the last time you ate?"
Serena considered for a moment, then answered, "An hour ago. I think I ate three pies, they were great. You have great food here."
Makoto's mouth dropped. Serena was wolfing down food like there was tomorrow and had eaten three of Jupiter's pies. Those pies were a foot square each! If it wasn't starvation that brought the girl what had? Makoto asked, "Aren't you scared of me?"
Serena stopped eating and blinked. She asked, " Why would I be Mako-chan?"
Makoto smiled. She had just found a great new friend, if she didn't eat her out of the kingdom of course.

Mina looked into the mirror. She saw a young girl who was pretty. Mina rarely thought solely about herself. Perhaps there is something wrong with me, she thought. She wasn't like the other inhabitants of Venus. They were all incredibly vain, not that she wasn't, and many were so intent upon themselves that they either shunned everyone or went to bask among the compliments they would get. Mina was the princess and was the epitome of her people vivacious, extraordinarily beautiful, and gentle hearted. Except she wanted more then being pretty she wanted friends. Of course being as beautiful as she was she didn't have too many friends, at least true blue ones. Mina got up and went off to play some sports. She noticed a new girl there. Some of the men were trying to teach her to play tennis. Mina wanted to be alone with her thoughts and passed them to go and sit under a golden tree and look out into the golden view. A golden lake and beautiful golden mountains greeted her.
"Hi," a voice said behind her, "isn't the view lovely? Everything is so bright here. No wonder people like to come here. The other worlds too. You have the hunkiest guys for sure though." Mina looked at the girl. She had been the one playing tennis. Mina smiled and said; "I saw you surrounded by those guys at the tennis court. How'd you do?"
The girl blushed. She replied, "Not so well. I'm sorry to say that somehow that racket managed to hit in their faces way too often for their tastes. I think I gave a couple of them black eyes too, I'm not sure. They were running too fast."
The two girls laughed.
"I'm Serena."
"I'm Mina."
The two girls became sure friends right then.

Serena thought of all her friends that she now had. They were so great. Ami was so perceptive, Rei so hard working, Makoto so kind, and Minako was so clever. Serena knew she was still only an awkward princess, who didn't do that well in her lessons, and had a lot to live up to. However, Serena vowed to herself that not only would she improve herself but that she would always protect everyone. She would earn their respect.
