[2006.12.21] Hallyu Stars Spread Holiday Giving Spirit
Hallyu stars Lee Young-ae and Lee Jun-ki are spreading the holiday spirit by making donations of 100 million won and 20 million won, respectively, to local organizations Thursday.
Lee Young-ae, best known to Asian fans for her performance in the television drama ``Jewel in the Palace,'' visited the Asan Medical Center in Pungnab-dong,Seoul, for a ceremony in which she handed over the donation in the presence of children and adult patients suffering from terminal diseases.
She also spoke with the patients in private. During the ceremony, she apologized for creating a scene when there are many people who help without others knowing.
``On the other hand, I hope that my doing this will inspire those who don't
know how to help or are not brave enough to act on their desire to help, she said.
The money will be used by the hospital to help 13 patients.
Actor Lee Jun-ki gave 2 million won to the Korean Citizen's Coalition for Teen Heads of Households. The money will be used to help pay for the tuition of children who are the heads of their families.
This is not the first time Lee Jun-ki, who rose to stardom after he won over audiences with his portrayal of a court jester in the 2005 hit film ``The King and the Clown,'' has lent a hand to those in need.
Last October during Chusok, Korean Thanksgiving, Lee donated the bonus he received from the producers of ``The King and the Clown'' to teen heads of households.

[2007.01.12] 'Time of the Dog & Wolf' The Perfect Love Triangle

Lee Jun Ki, Jung Kyung Ho, Nam Sang Mi these three superstar in one new drama 'Time of the Dog & Wolf' has attracted many audience. The NIS (Don't know what it stands for, but it's a department in the police force where they collect news) being the main concept, this drama shows us the challenges, sacrifices, friendship and love of these two young men.

It is the first time in Korea history that they had the agreement of the NIS to do their shooting inside the NIS deparment, 'Time of the Dog & Wolf' had their filming in there, this has became the hot topic. Also their promotion shooting went smoothly on the day.

With the help of the NIS, this drama will show a more realistic side of the real world.

 

In this drama Lee Jun Ki will play the role who lost his memories and joined in the criminal organization. Nam Sang Mi and Lee Jun Ki once met in Macau and met again in Korea, maybe this is fate that they became lovers. Jung Kyung Ho is a policemen, him and Lee Jun Ki was friends when both of them entered the training camp.

 

Before filming, the NIS will need to investigate each and one of the characters who's playing in the drama, they need to know their family detail and even their mobile phone need to be turned off. Also what they wearing for the shooting will need to be reported.

 

One of the staff member expressed "Although it's very troublesome through the agreement processes of filming in the NIS, but once it's agreed, we can have them help out and everything will come smoothly."

 

'Time of the Dog & Wolf' will be a 20 episode drama, to get this drama ready for filming the staff members have spent almost 2 years of preparing it. They also spent 1 year of fixing and correcting the script.

On the July 2006, they have finally decided Lee Jun Ki and Jung Kyung Ho for the male main role. After a few meetings during November it is decided Nam Sang Mi to take the female main role, the filming will start from December.

 

Lee Jun Ki will play the role of a member in the criminal organization, because of one accident he lost his best friend and lover. Jung Kyung Ho will play the role of a calm and think things thoroughly policemen. Both of them are good friends, but they both loved the same women and they must fight against each other.

 

It will be decided what station when it be aired on 2007 January, and estimated start airing this summer.

To become a stronger man through TV drama 'Time of the Dog and Wolf'

In this year time the beautiful image in 'King and the Clown' that Lee Jun Ki been carrying, now it's time to say goodbye. Coming up year, a change of strong man image.
For the coming up new drama 'Time of the Dog and Wolf' Lee Jun Ki have been doing a series of body training. In this drama Lee Jun Ki will play the role of a criminal organization who's seeking revenge. Not only taking body training, but to look stronger for this role a change of hairstyle is needed.

After 'Hotel Venus' this is the second time that Lee Jun Ki have cooperated with Japan. For the new Japanese actor Aoi Miyazaki, as we can see in the poster she is full of expression when looking at Lee Jun Ki in the poster.

[2006.12.19] Both Korean top movie did poorly in Japan
In 2006 these two movies 'King and the Clown' & 'The Host' has changed the Korean movie history, but these two top movies didn't do so well in Japan box office.

On September, 'King and the Clown' aired on 108 screen in Japan, in the first season it just barely made it in the top 10 ranking, but in the second
season it was kicked off the list. In 'King and the Clown' Lee Jun Ki was the only Korean star that the Japanese peoples had their eye on, as this topic of the olden Korean days is very rare in movies. Also this is the last Korean movie of the year to be aired in Japan, how well it did can affect next year.

Although it has attracted a lot of people attention when it first aired in cinema, but the number of viewers was lower than they expected. 'The Host' also aired during September, but it didn't do so well as well. The reason that these two movies didn't do so well in Japan might be because of the culture difference.

[2006.12.16] 27th Blue Dragon Award, Newcomer Award Lost to Deok-Hwan Ryu
Korea 27th Blue Dragon Award was held yesterday night, instead of getting the male new comer award which everyone thought he has received the most popular award and best screen couple award.

'King and the Clown' received 11 awards which made them the winner of the day. As Lee Jun Ki was one of the nominees in best male new comer but lost to Deok-Hwan Ryu, instead he received the best screen couple award with Woo-Seong Kam and received most popular award with two of the actors in 'King and the Clown'.

Woo-Seong Kam praises that Lee Jun Ki is more prettier than women and shouted "I love you" to Lee Jun Ki. Afterward he kissed lightly on Jun Ki's cheek, the crowd was screaming joyfully. Lee Jun Ki expressed that he learnt a lot from his senior Woo-Seong Kam.

On the 9th it was the first day of 'King and the Clown' showing in Japan cinema, it listed 10th place in the box office ranking. '2006 Mnet KM Music Festival' award ceremony was held, DBSK with 4 awards was the biggest winner of the day. But one of the member was ill and was at the hospital.
Super Junior received the Newcomer Group Award. (Sorry I'm not gonna translate the others winning award because I don't know much about them).

Lee Jun Ki awarded with several newcomer awards, his new production 'Fly Daddy' planning to be aired in China in the coming New Year.

In 'King and the Clown' Lee Jun Ki was awarded with a saying "More pretty than woman" but in his new film 'Fly Daddy' his image will be totally opposite to his image in 'King and the Clown'. [2006-11-21] Cape Town World Cinema Festival Jury announces winning films
The honours for Best Feature Film at this year's Cape Town World Cinema Festival have gone to the Korean film, King and the Clown, directed by Joon Ik Lee. This 16th century dramatic comedy focuses on the intrigue and drama of court life.

The Jury motivated, "This story about 16th century actors in the Korean Court completely transported us as it brought old theatre forms alive. The Shakespearian dynamic, the unpredictable narrative and the emotional journey of the characters all work together to create a richly textured film. Joon Ik Lee, the director, is an original voice and he has emerged at an exciting time in Korean cinema."

An elated Jun Ik Lee responded, "I had the good fortune to be part of the jury for the 4th Asiana International Shorts Competition, which took place in Seoul in early November. We awarded the Grand Prize to LUCKY, a short film about South Africa directed by Avie Luthra. So it is all the more special to get the news that KING AND THE CLOWN has been named the Best Feature Film at the Cape Town World Cinema Festival. I am grateful for this news from a half way around the world. I am very happy to hear that the African audience at the festival has embraced a film which takes place in Korea over 500 years ago."

King and the Clown also won the award for the Best Screenplay for writers Seok-Hwan Choi and Tae-woong Kim.

The 5th Korean Film Award Festival has ended, movie 'The Host' was the big winner which took 6 awards. Also in 'King and the Clown' Lee Jun Ki have awarded the best male newcomer award.

Korean most viewed movie 'The Host' took down 6 awards in total which made them the big winner of the day. These 6 awards include: Best film of the year, Best director,
Best shooting, Best lighting, Best special effects and Best sound effects awards.

On the other hand the new star Lee Jun Ki, in 'King and the Clown' he starred as a beautiful clown, with his superb acting skills he was awarded the Best Newcomer Award.

They said that the movie is missing something and it's too much about the South Korea palace lifestyle, it is hard for them to understand the moral of the story. They also mention they aren't looking forward for Lee Jun Ki to be famous.
The Korean movie judges first choose 'King and the Clown' instead of 'The Host' was because it shows the Korean traditional, although it's not a big production but the acting is not bad.
The American movie judges thinks the movie is long and the story is too based on Korean traditional culture which it's hard for outsiders to understands.
(P.S: It's funny how the Koreans chooses K&C because it shows the Korean traditional and now it becomes a reason that this movie has lesser chance of winning.)

[2006-10-06] Junki donates 70 millions won to Korean youth centre
People in Korea also celebrate Mid Autumn Festival, variety of artist when back to their home and celebrate with their family because Junki is in the middle of filming 'First Snow' so he can't celebrate with his family.
For the Mid Autumn Festival Junki donated his 70 millions won from the bonuses of 'King and the Clown' to the youth centre.
Junki said "The reason that 'King and the Clown' was so successful is because of everyone support, I believes that this is a better way of using this money".
At the moment Junki is at Japan with Aio Miyazaki filming 'First Snow', Junki soon will return back to Korea to attend a award event. In his own website he said that because of the filming he couldn't see everyone, all he can do is leave a message for everyone.

The DVD was released on the 15th, it included footage of Jun Ki's Fan Meeting event. On the Fan Meeting day Jun Ki sang three songs, One Word, Don't know love and Stupid/Foolish Love also some dance performances.

Lately Lee Jun Ki have released his first album 'MY JUN', because his album includes a USB drive the album is now prohibited.
On the 30th of August a electronic company claims that Lee Jun Ki's album have been violate of the copyright law. The company already sent a letter requesting to stop Lee Jun Ki's album for sale in store. In the letter the company wrote "Lee Jun Ki album 'MY JUN' have used some technique without permission."
The company also said "We and this electronic company manufacture a USB music album. We have released this on last year during March for FLY TO THE SKY album."
The USB drive for 'MY JUN' includes 3 songs and some videos of the fan meeting.

Before Lee Jun Ki went to Taiwan to promote his new movie, in the airport his fans loudly sang the Pomegranate song. Lately Jun Ki have become an animated character in the new Pomegranate commercial.

This time the commercial is split into 5 different parts, the illustrator of this is the illustrator by 'Full House'. The first part is about Jun Ki leaving home, Jun Ki memories back the time when he left his parents.

The next part will be release next month, this commercial reflected on Jun Ki's own personal life, all the challenges and obstacles he face before he became famous. The last part of the commercial will be release during
October.

[2006-08-21] New movie
At the moment Jun Ki is filming his new movie 'Magnificent vacation'. After this movie finish during September Jun Ki will be filming another new movie with the Japanese artist Aoi Miyazaki the one who starred in 'Nana'. Approximately 80% of this movie will be filmed in Japan.

If this movie finish filming during October, from November the new drama 'Time with the dog and wolf' will start filming, the crew members are still undecided. But around December or start of January next year it will be aired.

Lee Jun Ki's company MENTOR said that there are a few jobs already decided but this is the time where it's very important to Lee Jun Ki. Next year Lee Jun Ki will conquer his promotion to oversea, because of the movie 'First Snow' he apologies for not taking other jobs.

Korean movie 'The Host' aired in cinema within 21 days, more than 1000,0000 viewers. It have broken the record of 'King and the Clown' with the most viewers in Korean history. Lee Jun Ki expressed "Although the number of tickets sold is not everything, but it's a pity that the record been broke.

The movie 'King and the Clown' have received the most viewers this year with the record of 1200,0000 viewers. Unfortunately the record didn't stay for long, Lee Jun Ki felt it's a pity that for 'King and the Clown' he also wish this movie will stay in record for a longer time.

[2006-08-07] 'Fly Daddy' VS 'The Host'
Lee Jun Ki's new movie 'Fly Daddy' plays as a strong and tough high school student which is totally opposite to his character in 'King and the Clown'. This is Lee Jun Ki's first film after 'King and the Clown', within 7 days from the release date, only 18 million viewers which has lost to the movie 'The Host' who received 600 million viewers in 10 days. On the release day of 'Fly Daddy' there's 9 million viewers, but later there's lesser viewers an average of 2 millions viewers per day. The movie 'The Host' have received good response with 600 millions viewers, this might can break the record of 'King and the Clown' who have 1230 millions viewers.

My comments: I got this article from the Taiwanese news paper 'Apple'. I don't think this is correct, the movie 'Fly Daddy' is not even released for 7 days. From 3rd August to 7th August, there's only 5 days in between it. But I don't really know if it's true about how many viewers per day or altogether. Just hope there's more viewers soon.

[2006-07-29] 'Fly Daddy' Lee Jun Ki Dreaming to be an extraordinary actor - Part 2
 #3. Patient of fear of heights rock-climbs

Thanks to regular exercise, there was no difficulty in acting out action scenes. However, for the filming of the rock-climbing, there were some real hardships. His body had a rejecting reaction because of the use of muscles that he didn't normally use. Watching people rock-climb on TV, he thought that, 'All I have to do is hold on to the rocks and go up', but as it turned out, it wasn't that simple. "It was hard supporting myself with the power of my finger joints. I had to work hard to make myself look like a real rock-climbing professional."

In real life, he has a fear of heights that everytime he goes somewhere high up, he starts to tremble, but in the movie, he really wanted to act the part of 'SeungSuk'. Upon first receiving the scenario, he thought that the character 'SeungSuk' had as much pain as himself. "I felt that a made-up character lacking facial wounds would lessen the spirit. I had a lot of discussions with the director about the size of the wound. If it was too big, then it might come off as unlikeable. We must've discussed these things for almost a month (laugh)."

While filming <Fly Daddy>, he felt an unspeakable fear, but didn't let it on to anyone. This was because he didn't want to make everyone around him do more hard work just for him. Lee Junki has an opinion that as an actor, he should get through his fears, and right now, he's happier than anyone could be. "I don't want to be a star who shines and then disappears. I want to be a true actor who marks his place among the crowd."


#4. I don't want to imitate someone else's acting

Lee Junki, who gained instant fame with the movie <The King's Man>, still has the mind he had as a newcomer. He says that although his surroundings have changed drastically, the 'human Lee Junki' hasn't changed at all. He hasn't forgotten about his ambition to go forward as an actor, no matter what his popularity is. This actor, who still has an endless list of things to show us, couldn't seem to contain his passion. "To succeed more, I need to pick good productions to further increase myself as an actor than do a film with a female actress. To an actor, it's a great experience to be able to do well in a film."

Coming back as a strong guy and smelling of sweat in <Fly Daddy>, he didn't read the original novel nor watch the Japanese movie based on <Fly Daddy>. He had a chance to, but he didn't. This was because he felt that it would interfere with his own making of the character of 'SeungSuk'. In the case of <The King's Man>, he did watch the play <Yi> beforehand, but it didn't help much, and only interfered with his own making of 'GongGil'. "I didn't want to copy whoever did the character first".

There are some actors who only want to emboss their own characters without thinking of the flow of the story. In opposition, there are also actors who make the story live and at the same time emboss their own characters as well. Without an explanation needed, actor Lee Junki wants to be the latter and always asks himself, 'What would I do if I were 'SeungSuk' in a situation like this?', never letting the character get out of his body.


#5. With unwavering trust in acting..

In contrast with his feminine looks, he has self-control that is almost to the point of stubbornness. He is even clear and accurate with his choosing of films. He chooses films that he can convey the emotions he himself felt while filming to the audience. To an actor, the audience's interest in one's acting is essential. Although he is in the place of a star at the moment, he wants to keep on jumping over obstacles in his career.

There are a lot of actors who can act in front of a camera, but there aren't many actors who are willing to give their trust to the audience. Lee Junki, who still is embarassed when referred to himself as a main actor, prefers to call himself a cooperation actor instead. "In the case of <The King's Man>, each and every day was filled with tension, but I think that I filmed <Fly Daddy> more enjoyably. I was even more happy because of Lee MoonShik senior, who never got annoyed or irritated in times of hard work and led me through with a relaxing mind."

Because of the uncertainty of his acting taking a step back, he doesn't even have any blank time. That's why he says that he wishes that when he does have some free time, he wants to go to an empty beach and think about himself and his actions over past events.

Lee Junki, who is standing where he is now thanks to his unwavering trust in acting, says that the one thing he wants to hear after <Fly Daddy> is that he is an actor who has completed a successful film. He says that when he met with the director after finishing up the filming of <Fly Daddy>, that his trust didn't waver a bit in the film. He says that this was because of how enjoyable it was to film it, and his belief that he has finished a film that lets out emotions about the importance of family. The phrase one can most easily put next to actor Lee Junki's name is 'a man more beautiful than women'. To an actor, these words could mean poison or medicine, and Lee Junki has chosen to make it a strong point of his career. Even up to the filming of <The King's Man>, Lee Junki probably felt uneasiness towards the future of his acting days. However, <The King's Man>, which broke records in the korean movie industry, brought large changes into the life of his acting career. Lee Junki, who is now wrapped around in confidence about acting, attempts to be even more unusual with the movie <Fly Daddy>. Max Movie met actor Lee Junki, who tries to bring out the best of his characters with his brilliant looks.

#1. Walking the way of being an actor between heaven and hell

The starting point of an acting career is the desire to do it. He discovered the road he wanted to follow after being dragged to a small theatre by a friend of his who was studying theatre in the 10th grade. Lee Junki, who felt the thrill from the actor standing onstage, decided then that he wanted to be the kind of person who gave others that same feeling also. "I was envious of the looks from the audience that the actor onstage received. I was so full of admiration to that actor, who could control the audience's emotions, that he even looked like God."

Although he is a star that everyone in the nation now recognizes, the looks he used to receive from back when he first started acting were unkind. Because he had never had any acting lessons of any kind before then, people gave him scornful laughs in return for his acting. He didn't want to back out now, though he had started at a later age than others surrounded by the scornful laughter. Instead, he stepped forward one by one. He wanted to prove to everyone that there was no one to stop a person who worked hard towards their dreams from progressing. He failed at many auditions, but never once did he regret taking this certain road. "Even now, I'm still working hard to fill in the spots that I'm not good at with passion."

With difficulty, he got into a major in theatre, but the act of stepping one's first foot into society couldn't be done with just passion. "During those days, people probably only saw the negative sides of me." His naive mind to want to move another person's emotions onstage had turned into 'a mission'. "These days, I involuntarily get mad when someone says that I can't act, because my self-respect has become stronger." He says that nowadays, he goes between heaven and hell based on the general public's judgement on his acting skills.

#2. The future rests on how hard I work

"'During <The King's Man>, I wish that some other actor had done it'. I would've been really depressed if the major reaction had been this." The starting point where he began to leave a deep impression on the audiences was <The King's Man>. Lee Junki found a more mature side of him after the release of <The King's Man>. His popularity, which doesn't seem to go down even after time passes, changed his views on acting. "I'm still lacking a lot of things to be able to win the 'Best Male Actor' award. I want to go after the award when I'm in my thirties. I feel that just receiving the 'Best Newcomer' award during my twenties is a valuable start."

Good acting doesn't come naturally, and so one has to work harder than anything for it. His wanting to be a true actor instead of a shining star shows during filming. He showed us his sensible way of thinking, telling us that the immense popularity he had right now wouldn't last forever. He deals with the biased views people have of him in an intelligent way. It's been a long time since he threw away the fear of losing his popularity, which is bound to come down at some time.

In reply to the question of 'where do you think you will be in twenty years', he replied carefully, "It depends on how much hard work I put in". "I believe that I'll be either one or the other: a fallen actor, or an actor who is still doing well until then. Instead of being swept up in popularity, I want to devote myself to my work diligently. If there is one thing I want to hear when I'm that age is that I still have potential to be an actor."

An actor has to be able to do anything for his/her character. He believes that although it is not the chosen work, an actor is a 'conductor' due to the fact that they have the chance to freely move around a person's emotions. "I think that the key point is to be able to express the scenario that one has read enjoyably. I'm not someone who can perfectly pull off a role, but I want to continue my career steadily in search of a solution."

During the interview, Lee Junki kept repeating this: "I want to get out of the image of 'GongGil'." This is the reason he chose to do <Fly Daddy>. Lee Junki, who has been receiving much love from female fans with his 'cute guy' image, is learning how to live life from his acting in a renewed way. "I think he's similiar to me in the fact that he doesn't easily agree with the world. For his past that wasn't expressed in the scenario, the director and I discussed it and made it."

He knows that people will give a cold evalution of his acting. Although he buys misunderstandings because of his confidence and nonawareness of other people's bad gazes towards himself, he feels that anti's are parts of being an actor with a large amount of popularity. Ever since the filming of 'Fly Daddy, Fly' Lee Jun ki have gained 4kg. Lee Jun Ki said "While I was filming 'King and the Clown' I lost too much weight,now that I have gained 4kg my chest looks muscular. In 'Fly Daddy, Fly' not only Lee Jun Ki have gained weight but everyone attention is to Lee Moon Shik who gained 15kg within one month.
Lee Moon Shik said "Just when the filming started I gained 15kg, this is to suit the character of a middle age men who doesn't like exercising". Within a month he gained 15kg afterward he have one month to get rid the weight he gained.

I hope that my face can get older quicker with wrinkles so that I can put more passion into my appearance." Lee Junki, however, knows as much as he's envious of Lee MoonShik's wrinkles that there is no way he can age faster. 'The King's Man' Lee Junki confessed that because of the sudden attention, he went through 'symptoms of depression'.

Lee Junki, who recently filmed 'Fly Daddy' (Director Choi JongTae, DaIn Films) as lead actor, revealed this during a recent interview with NewsEn.

After the popularity of 'The King's Man' and his rise to stardom, he stated that "my surroundings changed faster than I did" and that "I received so much attention that I could hardly go outside of my house".

He confessed that "To rid myself of depression, I once sat in my room and shouted until I lost control". He said that "I was in a situation where I wanted to meet more people but I couldn't", saying that "I probably would've gotten in fights with people if I could've drunk more alcohol", telling us of his suffering as a star.

He especially paid a lot of attention to rumors, saying "I used to get hurt because I would feel judged by just the negative parts".

Lee Junki stated, "I'm still weak, but I've been made out as more than I am", requesting, "I don't want to be judged on only what I've already accomplished, so please continue to watch me".
