Meteos Review
Review by dusty._.dog
Lumines on the PSP was, in my opinion, the only game worth buying the PSP for. When I learned that the creator of Lumines, Tetsuya Miguichi, was making a game for DS called Meteos, I was more than exited.
The concept behind Meteos is simple - Line up 3 blocks of the same color by sliding them up and down to launch them off of the bottom screen. The tricky part is being able to do this
while more and more blocks rain down onto the field. Add in the fact that most Meteos alignments only launch partially off the screen, and the game becomes a lot less simple. In order to completely launch a group of meteos off the screen you'll need to either align more than 3 meteos, or create huge comboes by conecting other launched meteos to each other once they reach the ground.
It seemed that once I mastered these seemingly easy concepts, another strategy would reveal itself. I became so addicted to gettting higher combos and playing with different styles that I only played one of the game modes, Simple mode, for a few hours. Then I went back and looked at all the modes. All of them were great, but the Fusion room caused me to cream my jeans. (If you know what I mean.) By Fusing together all of the different kinds of meteos you have lanched (the game keeps track of every one) you can create other planets, items, metals, or sounds. This is where the game truely shines. Nearly every single planet has a different type of meteos, different gravity properties, and different rules. There are over 30 planets. (!) I though this was enough to keep my playing, but add in Star Trip mode (with over 10 diferent endings), and an awsome Multiplayer mode (you can play up to four players with just one game card) and you have a truely standout title for the DS. 9/10 ~dusty._.dog
