Rehearsals were intense, costumes were being made as the dancers were preparing, sets were being constructed, and then re-constructed, and then reconstructed again, until it was right, or as near as was acceptable to the man who had the whole concept in his head.

On his 40th birthday, July 16, 1998, Michael spent the day on his solo, Feet of Flames. For 12 hours he concentrated, and by the end of that day, he knew he had what he wanted.

Once the week arrived, when the riggers and carpenters had to 'move house', the scene moved to Hyde Park, specifically the area known as the "Route of Kings" or "Rotten Row".
