October 7, 2002 Aidan Hulme Needs Our Help!
Urgent appeal for an Irish citizen

Aidan Hulme, in his twenties, is an Irish citizen being held (indefinitely) on "remand" in Belmarsh Prison in England. Before his arrest he had been in a car accident and suffered a serious leg injury. Aidan was receiving medical treatment for this injury until the time of his arrest. Since he has been incarcerated, he has not yet been tried or convicted of anything, he has received little or no medical treatment for his leg. As a result of the lack of medical treatment in Belmarsh, gangrene has now set in. The British authorities informed him the leg should be amputated. This kind of abuse is deplorable in a so-called "civilized" country. There is no excuse for this, as this is really a case of a human rights violation.

Most recently, Aidan’s family and solicitors applied for a three day medical leave for surgery in order to try to save his leg. It was finally granted. Then, at the last minute, British authorities informed Aidan and his family that an amount of £9,000 (sterling) must be paid first. This is extortion! An outrage! The family did not and does not have the money. The amount has been reduced now to £4,000 (sterling).

We are asking that you PLEASE HELP AIDAN by sending an emergency donation to try to save this young man’s leg! Time is of the essence!
