October 18, 2002 Bloody Sunday Families Urge Support...
... of Award Winning Movie in Cinemas Across America

Dear Friends:
For three decades we have struggled against the odds to achieve justice for our loved ones killed on BLOODY SUNDAY. Many, including some very powerful people, encouraged us to give up our struggle. However, we kept faith with the unfailing belief that, one day, their innocence would finally be declared before the world.

The critically acclaimed movie 'BLOODY SUNDAY', directed and produced by Englishmen Paul Greengrass and Mark Redhead and Co-Produced by Derryman Don Mullan, has won several international awards. It is an amazing piece of work which was undertaken with the full support and encouragement of the Bloody Sunday families and wounded.

As the film is being launched in America, we are writing to urge Irish America to support it in cinemas across the country. We are currently in a difficult place, having to travel every week to London to listen to the testimonies of the soldiers responsible for killing our loved ones. We will do it, however, because we owe it to our loved ones to eventually have their names cleared and their innocence declared before the world. To know that Irish America is coming out, at this critical time in our long campaign for justice, supporting 'BLOODY SUNDAY' will give us tremendous encouragement and will help us realise that we are no longer alone in our struggle.

Recently, the American Greek community came out to support MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING, helping to make it the most successful independent film in history. We need the Irish American audience to unify to see BLOODY SUNDAY in theatres to help make the film both a box office success and a clear message that, even after 30 years, the world is supporting our struggle for justice. Education on this issue is vitally important and there is no more powerful way than to see this award winning movie. It also helps to place the Northern Irish 'Troubes' in perspective.

Because of the competitive nature of the film business, BLOODY SUNDAY needs your support NOW. This is your only chance to see this historic and moving film on screen, the way it is meant to be seen. It is a movie made with integrity and no lack of courage by the two Englishmen who worked so dilegently to make it happen. We applaud the contribution to the healing process made by Greengrass and Redhead and believe the best way to reward their efforts is by having large audiences go to see their movie in cinemas across America.

It is a movie worthy of their efforts. Rolling Stone calls BLOODY SUNDAY "A triumph! Look for BLOODY SUNDAY to take on the giants in the race for BEST PICTURE!" The New York Times calls it "Magnetic and impassioned! The level of accomplishment is overwhelming!" Entertainment Weekly calls it "Amazing!" and gives it a "Grade: A!" Yet because it is perceived as a political film, too many Americans have not made it a priority to see.

With your immediate help, BLOODY SUNDAY can become both a major success and a celebrated movie. YOU can help us keep it in the threatres for many weeks, playing to hundreds of thousands of people whose support we will feel in the crucial weeks ahead in London. YOU can help us ensure that BLOODY SUNDAY gets the attention that it deserves from the American public.

Please pass this e-mail on to your friends, and ask them to do the same to their friends, so everyone is aware of this crucial situation. Show support - go see BLOODY SUNDAY! Theatres are listed below.

Yours sincerely,
John Kelly and Michael McKinney
