Safeties and corners are known as defensive backs. Safeties and corners are numbered from 20 to 49. The safeties are the last line of defense. They line up behind everyone else on the defense. There can be two safeties: a free safety and a strong safety. The free safety lines up on the left, while the strong safety lines up on the right. Both safeties play the same as corners- man-to-man, zone, or blitzing depending on the play. If playing man-to-man, the safety must stay covering one reciever. If playing zone, he covers only a certain area on the field and reads the play. If blitzing, the safety's goal is to tackle the ball carrier behind the line of scrimmage.
