Jessica has another cd out. And you know what that means right? Time for another review.
The CD Booklet: The first thing I see when I open up the cd is an ad for a hair product she's selling. "Great hair isn't hard!" it says. Gag me. Anyway, when I open the actual booklet, I see that she has a fold out poster. Wow this looks a little too much like Britney's first cd. Hmm. I open the poster. She's wearing a hella short black mini skirt with buckle type things on it and a purple sweater. Interesting. There's another picture of her showing her stomach -- you know one of those with their arms in the air like "Oh, life is so hard" -- in that white outfit from the Irresistible video. As I read her thank you's the following things are noticed: She says "y'all" about every other word and she doesn't thank Nick at all. Jessica, I am shocked! Right. On to the songs now.
Irresistible: I like this song. It's just so... Poppy that you have to like it. You know? Although, all of the equations are pretty confusing when you actually sit down and think about it. [Ie: "More than just physical, deeper than spiritual...") So, yeah. And everyone said she totally changed her sound for this album, but that's not true. Cause she had songs like this on her first one, they just weren't singles. Oh and my one issue with this cd is that they didn't put the Lil' Bow Wow remix on it. It could've at least been a hidden track. Cause I like that version. Hey, whatever. Overall I like it.
A Little Bit: This is my favorite song on the album. I just really like it. Good stuff. And yes there is a major cliche in it ["A little bit goes a long way"], but that doesn't matter. I just like the beat and everything about this song. And I think it has a cool beginning. This should be a single.
Forever In Your Eyes: Nick Lachey wrote this. It must be weird now that they're broken up. You know? This song is kinda mid-tempo. It's not fast -- obviously -- but it's not your usual "Jessica ballad." The words are pretty and she sounds good singing it. I have to wonder though, did Nick write this about her? "Whoever thought an angel could bring heaven in me?" Wow. Deep.
There You Were: [Duet With Marc Anthony] I like this song. It's a nice duet. It's funny cause Marc sings first and at first listen I didn't realize that it was the duet... So I was like "Jessica?? Whoa." lol. Anyway, they make a nice team. I like it when people do duets. It brings together totally different people and I like that. More people should do them. Back to the song. At one point she says "And you babe" and it's in the weirdest voice, it sounds kinda like a mix between Cher and Britney. Creepy.
What's It Gonna Be: This song starts out slow and I'm like "Oh not another ballad." But then, after hearing it for a while, I think that another ballad might not be so bad. I'm kidding. This song isn't that bad. But it's not that good either. It's just your typical bubble gum pop song. "Read the sign down below, check the box yes or no." Oh Lord. Do you see what I mean? And her voice is different in this song. It sounds like a baby when she's singing the chorus for some reason. Eh. No me gusta mucho.
When You Told Me You Loved Me: Pretty song. One of those songs that makes you sit back and go "Why can't I sing?" lol. I like it. I don't really understand the words... But still. Nobody understood I Want It That Way and look how far it went. Okay, that's a little off topic. I really like this song. It's really pretty and kinda whispered. Yes.
Hot Like Fire: Amount of times Jessica says "Hot like fire" in this song: Way too many to even start counting. There's a dialouge in the beginning. Not good. Reminds me of another pop princess. CoughBritneycough. Ahem. I like it after the dialouge and up until the first chorus. It's all downhill from there. This has got to be one of the most annoying songs in the world of pop music. I would skip it if I were you. Unless you're incredibly bored and feel like counting the amount of times she says the title. Warning: It's a lot.
Imagination: The first five seconds or so sound just like Jay-Z's I Just Wanna Luv You. How's that for weird? Then this beeping type thing starts. At first my finger was hovering by the skip button but then I made myself listen. Good thing, cause the beeping thing stops and it gets pretty decent. I do like this song. Although, the annoying noise is repeated in the chorus. What's up with her and annoying choruses? Huh? Oh and the words are stupid. What is it with the lyric about "Take me to the water"? Or is that even what she's saying? Hmm. But I like the song. So... yeah.
To Fall In Love Again: This sounds pretty much like her other ballads. At least the first verse does. I like this song too. I'll admit that I'm a big fan of sappy ballads. They're pretty. And it's a plus if the person can really sing. Which Jessica can do. Not much else to say except that this might be my favorite ballad on the album. I think it is. It's -- without sounding really cheesy and for lack of a better word -- beautiful.
For Your Love: At first it sounds just like the last song. But it's really pretty. I told you I'm a sucker for ballads. Then, the chorus comes. And that reminds me of a BSB song. It sounds kinda like how I Need You Tonight does at the end, as in one person sings the whole song and then everyone comes together on the last chorus. I don't know who else is singing all the choruses with her, but it sounds good. I like this one too. Plus she holds some good high notes. Go Jess.
I Never: Produced by Rodney Jerkins. How can I tell? Well, obviously cause of his signature "Darkchild yeah" in the beginning. I like this song. It's fast. And actually sounds different then her other uptempo songs. And she sounds kinda bitter. I didn't know she had it in her. lol. I'm just a riot, I know. I think the song's about someone cheating, but I'm not sure. Hmm. She does that quick breath thing so it's hard to figure out. Hmm. Good song though. Oh and do you know how weird it sounds to hear the word "Shady" coming from her mouth? Very. I don't like it.
His Eye Is On The Sparrow: Jessica's gospel effort. No me gusta. This is the worst song. I skip it. I'm just not a fan of gospel music. I'm sure it's really good, but you know. I listened to it once, and that was enough for me. Sorry.
Overall: It's decent. I've heard better and I've heard worse. I do think it's better than her debut album though. So... cool stuff.
