Born at the beggining of the 19th century this group of people would live to see many changes. The industrialization of the nation whould become thourougly intrenched including the begining of massproduction techniques. These changes whould alow anyone to purchase store baught furnishings and goods for the home. They would achieve a level of comfort in their lives that was only available to the rich in previous times. Trains also became increasingly more important as the nation grew. Mechanization on
the farm was starting to take hold. Yet for the most part life was very much as it had been. People still used horses. A candle or lamp shed light at night and the outhouse was still in us. Medical technoligy was
very primitive with few exceptions. There were no automobiles, no radio, no television, no cinema, no aircraft. Only a short time after this generation died, and their children became adults, these inventions and many more whould come about.
5. Furst Christopher3,(George2, Christopher1) born in 1800.47 in York Township, York County, PA. His parents were George (Versch) Furst and Elizabeth. I have not found a christening record for Christopher. I did find that in Prowls 1907 history of York County George A. Farcht said his grandfather Christian (Christopher) was born and educated in York Township. Tax and Land records showed that Christopher did live in York Township as stated. He bought his first piece of land from an inlaw John Schwartz in 1821. He lived there until he sold his property and moved to a piece of land he bought in Dover Township in 1832. George A. Farcht had also said that his grandfathers children were born in York and Dover Townships. He probably had the places of birth wrong but the townships correct. Tax lists also have shown were Christophers land was. He appears to have bought additional land in Conewago township of York county although no record of this purchase has been found, only tax records.I then looked at tax and census records to see who could be his father. I found that an older Christopher and George lived there in the year 1800. Between Christopher and George the younger was George. He is in the right place at the right time and is the right age to be the younger Christophers father. The older Christopher had a daughter born in 1770. So if he had the same wife in 1800 it is unlikely that they could be the younger Christophers parents.50 Christopher was married to Anna Maria (Polly) Schwartz on 20 December 1818 at the First Reformed Church of York PA.51 He was raised in York Township, and after receiving his eduaction he was trained as a carpenter.51 Christopher died November 185852 and was buried at Rohlers School House Cemetery in Conewago Township York County.53 His wife
Anna Maria was born 30 September 1790 in York County, PA. She was baptized at Christ Lutheran Church in York. Anna was the daughter of George and Catherine Schwartz.54 Anna died about 1855, this is an estimate based on the fact that she was alive for the 1850 census but died before her husband in 1858. Christopher married second the widow Catharine Wilt. She was the wife of George Wilt and the mother of 5 children by that union. She was born 20 October 1815 and died 5 August 1884 in the city of York. Shown below is the inventory taken for the sale of Christopher's estate after his death, taken 27 November 1858, for the widow Catherine Forst.
