FBAS is conducting excavations at the site of the old Barnett Plantation. Thomas Barnett moved to Texas in 1824 as a member of Stephen F. Austin's Old Three Hundred. He received title to a league of land on the east bank of the Brazos River located in what is now southeastern Fort Bend County. Mr. Barnett signed the Texas Declaration of Independence, represented Fort Bend County in the House of the Third and Fourth congresses of the republic (1838-40) and was Chief Justice of Austin County. The Thomas Barnett Home was constructed in 1836, this home was burned by Santa Anna’s army and rebuilt the same year. For more information on Thomas Barnett visit The Handbook of Texas Online web page.
