Archeology for Children at the John Moore Home
Each year, the annual Children's Day Festival is held on the grounds of the Fort Bend Museum. Located on the grounds of the museum is the historic John M. Moore home. FBAS has conducted real archeological digs for children at the home since 1998.
Sometimes we even have groups of scouts come out to help. The Boy Scouts help on the dig while earning credits towards their archeology merit badge. Artifacts found, along with those from previous years help provide more insight into the history of the Moore family. John M. Moore was elected to Congress in 1905. His son, Judge John M. Moore, donated the house to the museum in 1975. The museum then opened the house for public tours. The home is a Registered Texas Historic Landmark.
