"Early Canadiana"

During the settlement of our country the majority of people were not able to bring furnishings over from Europe because of the cost of shipping and the inconvenience of transporting large items in a newly developing nation. When the time came to furnish a new settlement, furniture was most often built by a local wood-smith using available resources to produce functional pieces with the familiarity and comfort of old world design. The vast majority of these early Canadian pieces were made from pine, which was the most available and affordable wood during these years of settlement.
At Fort Hudson we are dedicated to preserving this small piece of Canadian history. Each piece of our furniture is hand built by a single wood-smith using the same traditional materials and methods of construction our forefathers used hundreds of years ago. This commitment to our heritage ensures the most authentic Early Canadiana reproduction furniture available on the market today.
