"Harvest Tables"

Harvest tables have graced the kitchens of rural farm homes for hundreds of years. During harvest time, noon meals were often served to farmhands seated around tables much like these.

"Drop Leaf Table"

This particular example is distinguished by a small cutlery drawer, and leaves that drop down to save space.

Square tapered legs were common on simple farm tables in the 1700`s giving way to larger more elaborate tables with turned legs in the 1800`s. On the farm, benches were the traditional seating around a harvest table.

"Plank Top Table"

This particular example is distinguished by its simplicity. Square taper legs, four large tongue and groove planks, and hand blacksmithed nails date this table back to the early 1700`s.

"Coffee Tables (Blanket Boxes)"

Blanket boxes were perhaps the earliest form of bedroom furnishing, having been derived from packing chests. These trunk like boxes were often elevated on legs in order to keep dampness from spoiling their contents. Blanket boxes were often the only piece of furniture highly decorated with paintings or carvings, demonstrating their special status in the home.

This particular piece is distinguished by its carved Fleur Delys and would have been found in French Canadian homes in the early 1700`s.   (Available without Fleur Delys)

"Lamp Tables"

Before electricity was commonplace, oil lamps were used to light homes. Lamp tables served as safe pedestals from which lamps could illuminate rooms. Early lamp tables usually had square tapered legs and a single small drawer in which to keep matches and candles. Later on, towards the end of the 1800`s, lamp tables began appearing with elaborate turned legs, multiple drawers, and drop leaves that could be raised to expand the size of the table for other uses.
