SkaTES, RAYS and FISH

The Boney fish

Occurrence - Very common

The bony fish ( Class Osteichthyes), unlike sharks, have a true boney skeleton. The fragile nature of this skeleton makes fossilization highly unlikely in the NJ area. Teeth, vertebrae, and the occasional jaw fragment are the common finds from the marl in NJ.
