Murphy Cup Regatta 2002
Temple University Crew and Friends of Temple Rowing (FOTR)
will host the 20th Annual Murphy Cup Regatta on Saturday, April 20th, 2002. This
event celebrates the memory of a Temple oarsman, John J. Murphy, 1959-1981. John J.
Murphy was the epitome of a Temple oarsman, an intense and dedicated athlete who always
gave 110%. In 1981, Murphy set the pace that would lead the men's Temple Crew to
five consecutive undefeated seasons in winning the Dad Vail Titles. Tragically, in
the summer of 1981, John Murphy was killed in a hit and run accident while working out.
John Murphy's spirit continues to promote desire, passion, and dedication of the
Temple Crew.
In the true spirit of the rowing community, the Murphy Cup
event has grown to be one of the premier collegiate regattas on the Schuylkill River in
Philadelphia. Between 800-1000 athletes representing more than 20 colleges from
around the East Coast will attend this year's event. In order for Temple Crew and
Friends of Temple Rowing to continue hosting the Murphy Cup Regatta, we are seeking ways
to generate revenue through sponsors and advertising. Please
go to the fundraising section to view the ad and sponsorship contract for details.
We invite you to support the Murphy Cup Regatta and the sport
of rowing by placing a high visibility ad, as well as sponsorship levels in the official
Murphy Cup Regatta Program. Your participation in this effort is greatly appreciated
and please join us on April 20th for an exciting day of racing.
Your support is greatly needed and we ask you to please
consider supporting this event. For further assistance, please contact Rick Gross,
President of FOTR, at 856-346-5626.
Thank You,
Rick Gross, President
