Currently a student at the Greenbrier Valley Campus (Lewisburg, West Virginia) of New River Community and Technical College, Jimmy Wheeler is a lifelong resident of West Virginia who now lives with his family in Riverside Rest. An avid outdoorsman, he likes traveling (especially to beaches), reading, walking, and bicycling.

When we asked him for a brief biography to accompany his poetry, Wheeler told us that the effort was "kind of like writing your own obituary. Makes you reflect on the past and where you're going. It's not what you include, but what you leave out." His poetry is something like that.
look within

Take a look at me
    Can you not feel
Tell me what you see
    My heart is for real.

As we pass through time
    Join hands with me
Our lives shall entwine
I with you and you with me.

A whirl of thoughts
    Flow through my hungry soul
When you are near
    Then I am whole.

The love we make
    To become as one
For time to break
    When we are done.

Is this not to be
    Who is to say
What will you see
    When we meet today.
