The Giggler Treatment
by Roddy Doyle
Retell
The Gigglers are small furry creatures whom not many people have seen because they change colour according to their surroundings, like chameleons. When adults are mean to children the Gigglers make sure that they step in dog poop over and over again until they apologize to the child and start being nice. This is called the Giggler Treatment.
But this time the Gigglers have made a mistake. Mr. Mack is about to step in some poop, a fate he doesn't deserve. Will the Mack family and Rover, a talking dog, be able to save Mr. Mack and his new trousers from this disaster? Read the book to find out!

What Got Me Interested
What got me interested in reading this book was the cover art, a picture of a dog and the Gigglers. Originally, since I'm obsessed with dogs, I thought that's what the story would be about. As it turns out, the book is more about the Gigglers than Rover, the dog, but I still enjoyed it thoroughly. I have read another novel by this author called "Rover Saves Christmas", which I also liked and found to be just as funny.

Recommendation
I would strongly recommend this book to girls and boys from grades 4 to 50, because the theme is general and open and I think everyone can use a good, very good laugh. "The Giggler Treatment" was, for me, a little easy, but well written. One of the things about the book that I really enjoyed was the fact that throughout, Roddy Doyle added random things that really had nothing to do with the plot, which made me laugh. For example a vulture that likes sandwiches, a seagull that hates fish or a man pulling two train carriages with his teeth. In short, this book is an absolute hilarious read!
