P.S. Longer Letter Later
by Paula Danziger and Ann Mazer

Retell

The book "P.S. Longer Letter Later" is about two girls named Elizabeth and Tara*Starr. They both are best friends, but one day Tara*Starr has to move to Ohio, which is many miles away from her home town. Tara*Starr and Elizabeth end up having to keep their relationship through letters. At first its easy but then things start to change (sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse). Can they stay friends or will the distance tear them apart? Read this book to find out!

After reading this book I had to read the sequel: "Snail Mail No More". It was just as good as the first one, maybe even better! In this one Elizabeth and Tara are sick of sending letters that take days to reach the other person so they both decide to get E-mail addresses and send E-mails to each other. Also, they start to use instant messaging, but again things go wrong. "Read Snail Mail No More" to find out what happens next with Elizabeth and Tara*Starr.

What Got Me Interested

In grade 5 Emma did a book talk on this book and I always wanted to read it so one time in mid grade 6 I was in the library looking for a good book when I saw it. I signed it out right away and started reading. At the end of August I went to the public library and saw it, I liked it so much the first time I read it, that again I signed it out. By September I was half way done and again couldn't put it down. Even the second time I read it, it was more than satisfying. That was how I got interested in this book.

Recommendation

My favorite part was when Elizabeth was telling Tara*Starr about her father’s "new" habits like drinking, and moping around the house, and spending all of their money on infomercials. I liked this part because at that point I could really see that their relationship was very good because they trusted each other with a lot. Also I liked that part because hearing about her father and how hard it must be for Elizabeth and her mother and little sister it made me just as angry and sad as it must have made Tara*Starr.

I recommend this book to women/girls of all ages because it is easy to relate to and it talks about situations that could happen in an everyday life style such as when a best friend moves away. I could definitely relate to this book because my best friend moved to Halifax and we try to keep in touch by writing letters and sometimes MSN but it is really hard to fit it in to all the homework and after school activities. That was another reason why I personally enjoyed this book, I felt like it was reflecting a part of my life! I recommend this book to women/girls more than men/boys because I think it is a lot easier to relate the situations to a girl's life. But I think that boys can also read it and enjoy it. Maybe not as much as girls would but they could still enjoy the story line.
