A Series of Unfortunate Events
The Austere Academy
by Lemony Snicket

Retell

In the The Austere Academy, the fifth book in Lemony Snicket's "A Series of Unfortunate Events," the Baudelaire orphans, once they enter the property of Prufrock Preparatory school, think that their lives will become normal again. But it turns out that the school has very unfair rules. For example, if you miss Principal Nero’s violin concert, which he plays every night for 6 hours, you have to buy him a bag of candy and watch him eat it!

At the same time as the Baudelaire orphans start school, a new gym teacher, Coach Genghis, is hired. The Baudelaire orphans notice that there is something strange and familiar about the new coach. They soon realize that he is their enemy, Count Olaf, however no one will believe them. Coach Genghis makes all three Baudelaires run hundreds of laps every night. He calls this the SOE (Super Orphan Exercises), and it makes them so tired that they start failing classes. They are threatened with being expelled from school and given to Coach Genghis.

Will the principal finally believe the orphans that the new coach is count Olaf? Will theBaudelaire orphans manage to pass their exams?
