Notes for Elizabeth ATKINSON

The family tree done by Harriet Thurtell about 1900 and the History of
the Thurtell Family done by Susan Persia Thurtell about 1968 show
Elizabeth Atkinson Thurtell was the second wife of James Thurtell. She
is buried at Blundeston, England, and her tomb shows Elizabeth Thurtell,
second wife of James, died 15th June 1823, aged 75 years.

Information received from Peter Murray in 1997 shows that Elizabeth
Atkinson was a widow at the time she married James Thurtell on May 2,
1797, at St. Mary in the Marsh Chapel, Norwich Cathedral. It is possible
that Elizabeth was related to the Woods family, perhaps by a prior
marriage. If so, she could conceivably be the Elizabeth (nee Thompson)
whose husband Robert Woods of Blundeston Hall had died November 18, 1788,
at age 46. In that case, she must have married a Mr. Atkinson after
that. The farm in Flixton occupied by James Thurtell may have even been
leased to him by the Woods family since they held land in both Blundeston
and Flixton parishes. Suffolk land records have not yet been examined.
