Notes for Benjamin THURTELL
Sources: Family tree done by Harriet Thurtell about 1900, the 1963
Thurtell Family History, and the History of the Thurtell Family done by
Susan Persia Thurtell about 1968, all in possession of Susan Persia
Thurtell Miller.
The IGI File at the LDS Family History Center (Batch C131712) shows
Benjamin Thurtell, son of Benjamin Thurtell and Ann, was christened
February 21, 1826, at Pakefield, Suffolk, England.
A brochure prepared by Charlotte V. Mackie, of Guelph, Ontario, "Benjamin
Thurtell and Descendants" for the "Woodlawn Cemetery Self Guided Memorial
Walking Tour," Woodlawn Cemetery, 762 Woolwich Street, Guelph, Ontario,
Canada N1H 3Z1,shows that Benjamin Thurtell Jr. "married Elizabeth
Nicklin of neighbouring Pilkington Township, and they settled in
Rockwood, in Eramosa Township. 'On Mill Street behind the Methodist
Church was Benjamin Thurtell's flour mill, the first in the county, and
prior to 1851.' Sometime after his death, the flour mill was burned."
It is assumed that Benjamin Thurtell Jr. was buried with his father, but
there is no monument.
