Notes for Irene Louise THURTELL
Much of the information is from the 1963 Thurtell Family History that was
done by Irene Peters, as well as from the History of the Thurtell Family
compiled by Susan Persia Thurtell about 1968.
Irene Thurtell Foresman Peters was very interested in the Thurtell family
history and corresponded with James L. Buck, Birds Eye Foods Ltd.,
Hobland Hall, Hobland, Great Yarmouth, England, in the mid 1960's, who
did Thurtell research for her.
Her husband and son sent a note to Janet and Henry Leroy Thurtell about
her death. She and her husband had visited Denver, Colorado, about 1966,
the first time in about 40 years that she and her first cousin, Henry
Leroy Thurtell, had seen each other.
The Wisconsin birth index confirms that Irene L. Thurtell was born
December 20, 1900, in Manitowoc County, Wisconsin.
The 1910 U.S. Census Soundex for Michigan (030 0056 0270) shows Irene
Thurtell to be age 9 and born in Wisconsin. It shows her living with her
parents, Herbert and Carrie Thurtell, her brother Howard age 16, and her
sister Helen age 14, in Traverse City, Grand Traverse County, Michigan.
Irene Thurtell is listed as age 19 and born in Wisconsin and living with
her parents, Herbert and Carrie Thurtell, in Benton Harbor, Berrien
County, Michigan, in the 1920 U.S. Census Soundex for Michigan (Vol. 9,
E.D. 76, Sheet 7, Line 33).
Social Security records for Social Security number 360-22-2867 confirm
that Irene L. Peters was born December 20, 1900, and died in October
1970. She had filed for Social Security disability benefits in May 1960
at the Social Security office in Benton Harbor, Michigan, and received
benfits from April 1960 until her death.
