Notes for George THURTELL

According to the History of the Thurtell Family done by Susan Persia
Thurtell about 1968 and information from the Norwich Public Library,
George Thurtell was born in 1801 and died July 26, 1848. He was a
horticulturist. He was fined for horsewhipping a journalist on April 30,
1846. In 1848 he pleaded guilty to stealing from a house where he was
employed as a landscape gardener. He was sentenced to twelve months
imprisonment and died serving his sentence. He married a Miss Edward at
Lakenham Church on January 16, 1823. Information received from Peter
Murray in 1997 shows the name of George Thurtell's wife as Miss Edwards
and that he was a landscape gardener at Miles End Nursery in1813, in
which year he voted. Whether or not he had any children is unknown.

The 1998 LDS British Vitals Records Index CD shows that George Thurtell
married Mary Vincent Edwards on January 16, 1823, and that the marriage
was recorded in Lakenham, Norfolk, England (Source: FHL Number 1526494).
