Notes for Ransom B. FOLTS
Records of Greenwood Cemetery, Grant County, Wisconsin, show Ransom B.
Folts was born February 24, 1843, and died April 30, 1928. He was in
Company I of the 25th R. W. V. I. and received a flag according to the
cemetery records. His wife, Anne Thurtell Folts, is also buried in this
cemetery.
Records of the Wisconsin Veterans Museum, 30 West Mifflin Street,
Madison, Wisconsin 53707-7843, show that Ransom B. Foltz was a Private
in Company I of the 25th Wisconsin Infantry. His residence is shown as
Hazel Green. He enlisted August 15, 1862, and was discharged October 22,
1863. He then enlisted August 29, 1864, and was a Corporal in the
Veteran Volunteers in Company B of the 43rd Wisconsin Infantry. His
residence was Jamestown, Grant County, Wisconsin. He was mustered out
June 24, 1865. He is listed as R. B. Foltz, living in Jamestown,
Wisconsin, in the 1885 Wisconsin Veterans Census. The museum records did
not show him in the 1895 census, but in the 1905 census he is listed as
Ranson B. Folts, living in Louisville, Grant County, Wisconsin.
The 1870 U.S. Census for the Town of Jamestown, Grant County, Wisconsin,
showing the Post Office as Platteville, Grant County, Wisconsin, lists
Ransom Foltz and his family following the Edward Thurtle family on page
15. On lines 17-18 are Ann Folts, age 56, born in Wisconsin, whose
occupation is keeping house, and Edward R. Folts, age 1, born in
Wisconsin. On lines 19-21 are Ransom Folts, age 27, born in New York,
who works on a farm; Ann Folts, age 25, born in Wisconsin, whose
occupation is keeping house; and Ransom Foltz, age 2/12, who was born in
March 1870 in Wisconsin.
