The best way to describe Lorrie is she is a full-time volunteer, who always seems to have more time to give. With her dedication to the Boy Scouts of America, she has been directly involved with 4 Packs. She has served Packs as Committee Member, Den Leader Coach, Webelos Leader, Cubmaster, and as a Unit Commissioner. Of all these positions, she is the most proud of being the Webelos Den Leader for 3 Dens, and has seen all those Scouts bridge into Boy Scouts, and continued on earning rank and staying active.
Lorrie has also been involved as Troop Advancement Committee Member for 6 years. She has aided 2 Life Scouts to obtain their Eagle Rank. She has held Boards of Reviews for nearly 125 Boy Scouts, always encouraging them to continue on for higher goals. She has been involved with many troop campouts, camporees, outings, and fund-raisers. Presently, Lorrie is an Assistant Scoutmaster, camping, canoeing, rappelling, hiking, and basically trying to keep up with the boys (or are the boys keeping up with her?). She has held this position for 2 years, and really enjoys it.
Lorrie has been involved with 6 Cub Scout Day Camps, encouraging songs and laughter for Day Campers, also acting as Program Director for 3 of the 6 Day Camps.
For 6 summers it seemed that Lorrie took up residence at Camp Dale Resler, working Yucca Council's Boy Scout Camp as Trading Post Manager and Lead Commissioner. This camp included Boy Scout Camp, Webelos Resident Camps, and Family Camp. She also served as Quartermaster Advisor for Yucca Council's Golden Falcon. Once again, Lorrie provided "Scout Spirit" to thousands of scouts, leaders, and Junior Staff Members at camp. As the Trading Post Manager at camp, it has been stated that "Lorrie can sell ice cubes to Eskimos."
Lorrie has served her districts as a Cub Scout Roundtable Staff member, keeping her focus on the Webelos Leaders. She feels that this is one of the most important areas in Cub Scouting, as this is the link to Boy Scouting, and the future of our Boy Leaders of our Country.
Another Scouting passion Lorrie has is for training. She has been training at Pow Wows for 6 years. She has also trained Cub Scout Leader Basic Training, Youth Protection, Cub Scout Leader Fast Start, College of Commissioner's Science, Show and Do, University of Scouting (Germany), Scoutmaster's Fundamentals, Boy Scout Leader Fast Start, District Popcorn Training, and School Night For Scouting. Lorrie's influence has reached thousands of boys through the training of their leaders. With all this experience, was there any doubt the she would hold the position of the White Sands District Training Chairman for 2 years? She trained Scoutmaster Fundamentals at Boy Scout Camp, adding a flair that only she can give. Her highest level of giving training was as a Coach Counselor/Committee member of Boy Scout Woodbadge WE5-573-97. She was known as the "Cheerleader" of the course.
The highest training Lorrie has received was Western Region Day Camp School (program director), which was help at Philmont in October 1994, Central Region Boy Scout Camp School (Lead Commissioner) held in Austin, Texas in 1995, Cub Scout Woodbadge NE-CS-38-07 at Camp Freedom, Germany in June 1992, and Boy Scout Woodbadge WE5-573-2-95-20 at Camp Dale Resler in September 1995. She received her Cub Scout Woodbadge Beads in March, 1993, and her Boy Scout Woodbadge Beads in August, 1996. In August 1997 Lorrie earned her 3rd Woodbadge Beads.
Lorrie's enthusiasm, spirit, and friendliness will reflect on to others for many years. Her most important goal in life is for her sons to gain leadership skills, love of country and God, and the want to live by the Scouting Principles. If you knew her sons, Jimmy (Eagle Scout) and Chris (Life Scout), you would know that her goal has and will be achieved, through her love of scouting.
