Head coach Steve Andersen started the boys soccer program at FP in 1981. After agreeing to coach just one year, the Cards went 12-3-1 that first year, Andersen fell in love with the sport.
Building on a strong youth program, the FP soccer team enjoyed considerable success in the 80's never finishing lower than second place in the league. In 1985 the Cards took fourth place in State. In a four year period from 1987 through 1990, the Cards won three league titles, lost only six games and in 1990 finished second in the State.
The Cards last league championship came in 1999 when FP defeated Lakes in the season's final game to claim the crown. The Cards have only had three losing seasons in their 22 years of competition. The record for the full 22 years is 234-89-20.

2003 Outlook - The Cards had a disappointing season last year in the Pierce Division finishing fifth and missing the playoffs. A poor start was difficult to overcome and several injuries hurt the team. The team will practice and play on the new Field Turf in Franklin Pierce Stadium. Sharing the facility with track will require staggering turniouts between 2:30 on Monday & Wednesdays and 4:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Fridays will also vary in times.

This year's team will be led by 3 seniors who all have received first team all-league honors. Forward Jason Shaffer led the team in scoring and Josh Strong was the key to the midfield. Scott Houseman played almost every position and made all-league as a defender. The team has several varsity returners, but the team's success will depend on how much they improved in the off season.

Should the Cards qualify for the playoffs, they will face a new format with the merger with the Seamount League which traditionally been one of the top leagues in the state. Peninsula is also new to the Pierce Division.
