LIVE FOREVER

PART 2

He slowly looked at her. Samantha was a vampire. His girlfriend of two years was a vampire. And now he was one too. He'd actually done as she'd told him to. Maybe she'd known that he'd do it, maybe she knew that he'd follow her anywhere, like her little dog as Kevin had called it. Kevin had never liked Samantha, they just didn't get along, and they all knew that that had been part of why there wasn't a band called the Backstreet Boys anymore.

It felt stupid how he'd just refused to talk to the others, except for Brian, occasionally. Samantha and A.J. still had contact, and from what he'd heard so did Howie and Kevin. Kevin and Brian didn't talk, they avoided each other and never spent the holidays at home with their families cause the other one might be there. At first it had been the lawyers' decision that they shouldn't talk, now they just refused to.

Nick sighed. At least he still had Samantha, and from what it seemed they'd both live forever.

- I won't grow old?

- No, she smiled, you'll reach the best year in your life, physically, and stay like that.

- But if you've passed it?

- You haven't.

- I'm asking for a friend, he said and carefully looked at her.

He had to admit that he was scared that she'd get mad. She could hurt him, really badly, but she never did.

- Only a limited number of people are allowed to become one of us. I chose you, so be careful whom you pick.

- There's a limited number?

- No, but how many do you trust to live forever? And more importantly, how many do you want to live forever?

Her almost devilish smile made him wonder how much she was keeping from him.

- What's the down side?

- Down side? She looked at him surprised.

- Everything has a down side, what is it?

- Well, you have to suck some blood on regular bases, she sighed, human blood, it's kinda annoying. You'd be amazed how long a dead human's blood will last.

- You've killed?

- I look too innocent to do that, don't I? She smirked, Yeah... my adoptive father was one of them, who do you think pushed him?

- I thought he fell.

- He did, down the stairs, after I pushed him in that direction...

Nick slowly covered his face with his hands.

- What else?

- You'll watch people you love die around you, she sighed, it hasn't happen to me yet but I guess it will.

- Unless they become vampires too...

- You red my mind, she smiled.

- So I'll watch my family and friends die now?

- It will take years, and I promise, I won't drink their blood.

- Calming, he sighed and removed his hands, I'll live forever, never grow old, drink human blood and watch people I love die without being able to help?

- Well yeah, I guess so, she sighed and took his hand in hers, but you can do practically anything too.

- Yeah, right... Can I fly perhaps?

- No, but you could jump of the Empire State building and get away with a broken arm that probably would heal in a week or two.

- Seriously? He looked at her.

- Yeah, and dive all you want, you can't drown.

- So at the worst I can break my arm?

- Unless someone decides to put a pole through your heart then yeah.

- Wait a minute, didn't you say I'd live forever?

- It has to be a wooden-pole, or it won't work. Sunlight won't hurt you, you can't get cancer or HIV...

- I can die?

- Yeah, but that's the only way.

He nodded and looked up at the roof. "I'll live till the end of time and never grow old... As long as there'll be music..."

- Can I let the others in on it?

- The others? She said surprised, Brian I understand, but even A.J., Kevin and Howie?

- Yeah...

- Are you sure?

- Then maybe... yeah, I'm sure.

- Then maybe there can be the Backstreet Boys again?

Nick looked at her. It sounded stupid but he'd grown up with those guys, he didn't want to see them die.
