CURRENT JOURNALS/'BLOGS
John Scalzi's Whatever Column
OK, I lied. Though not strictly a journal (by John's definition), John's first for a reason. He started me on most of these blasted journals, which led me to the others. If you're looking for someone to blame, Scalzi's the guy. Darn his enjoyable writing!
The Daily Bleat
I no longer read The Daily Bleat daily because, well, sometimes James (not Jim, you philistine) gets a little too conservative screedy for my tastes. But that doesn't negate the fact that James is a darned fine writer and has some great sections to his site.
Man About Murfreesboro
Mike's gone down the blogging path with a web presence that is still entertaining, veering from baby stuff to politics to particle physics. Always worth a look.
Darn Tootin'
Voted "One of the Two On-line Journalists Carol Would Like To Run Away With If They Weren't So Happily Married and Living So Far Away" (John is the other), Rob writes a funny and often touching journal about his beloved wife, challenging life as a daddy and his employment as The Man at a Monolith.
The Mighty Kymm - Sweet as a Biscuit
The grande dame of on-line journals, Kymm's entries are conversational, entertaining, and suck you in the way no one else's can.
squishy
Pamie is a published author, screenwriter and hot new entertainment industry wunderkind. With all this and an engagement on her plate, she remains one of the leading on-line journalers/bloggers. There's no mystery as to why, with her hilarious and touching observations and conversations.
plaintive wail
The blogging bug has bitten stee, but don't call it a comeback, bitches. Because it's not. No really. He says so. But though he may update infrequently (hey, he's turning into a Hollywood mover and shaker and planning a wedding - who's got time?), he's still a joy to read. (And he's really just a big ol' putty tat. But don't tell anyone, it'll ruin his cred.)
Bad Hair Days
An attorney in Sacramento who loves gardening, doesn't love attorney-ing, and actually enjoys waking up when most people are dead to the world. Beth's journal is ever evolving and remains a great read .
bobofett
Dana is one of Rob's best friends, but that's not the only reason to read her, not even the primary one. She's funnier 'n hell. It's that simple.
There's Pie in the Lunchroom
Chuck's former journal, chuck'stake, has morphed into a something resembling a 'blog. (Funny how that happens.) It's still pretty funny.
Diary of A SubUrban Housewife
Beth has also got a blog going, which I always love to read, especially in conjunction with her hubby's. I happen to think that Beth rocks the SubUrban Housewife World, even if she has inadvertently become my naughty quiz pusher.
Evaporation
Steve's back, Steve's back! Yea! It's nice to read his words again. I missed his humorous, affecting entries while he was gone.
Wil Wheaton Dot Net
Who'da thunk Wesley Crusher woulda growed up so hilarious? A funny, funny man is Wil Wheaton, who can also be very poignant.
Nova Notes
Al's wonderful entries always cause my heart to thump, whether he's talking about his love for his wife of more than fifteen years, his two surviving children, his son who passed away unexpectedly in November of '99, or his prediliction for collecting classic comic books. New artwork accompanies each entry, drawings which I really like.
Perfect Way
Sara leads a tough, fascinating life and records it with lyrical clarity. Just wonderful.
Baker Street
First of all, it's called Baker Street. Second of all, it's got Sidney Paget's drawings of the Holmes stories. Those two things are enough to warm the cockles of this Sherlockian's heart. But third, and most importantly, Michael's journal is terrific. Great writing and interesting observations, with pretty much nothing to do with Sherlock Holmes.
days of naze
Chris is just a hell of a writer. Nothing more needs to be said.
Footnotes
SecraTerri was once on a first name basis with Hell, but retains her sense of humor, love of Maybelline and hatred of Celine Dion. A woman after my own heart.
DEFUNCT OR HIATUS-ED JOURNALS
The Diary Thing
Rick is a photographer living in Toronto. He's taken some beautiful photos and his writing, like his photography, is often evocative, sometimes moody, but always interesting.
Are You Happy Now?
I miss Patrick and his words, and I hope he can come back soon, but read his archives - he's written some might thought-provoking entries.
I Am...
I met Erica first through the Squishy forums, then at a gathering of the So Cal Cool Girls, then in Vegas. She is so kick-ass that I just had to check out her journal, and what a great journal it is! Visually pleasing with thoughtful content, she tells of a life not lived easily, but lived well. I hope she comes back soon!
Planning a Sky
How can I not love a journal that uses a lyric from my absolute favorite musical as a title? In addition, Melissa's journal is a terrific read, full of insights and life happenings. Unfortunately she has pulled down the archives. No more Melissa makes a sad Carol.
Triumph and Disaster
Mike is another member of the Vegas contingent. This (now married) DC sports writer as also become a subject of crushability for me, and his journal is a straight forward, entertaining telling of his life. Too bad he hasn't updated in over a year. That makes me pout mightily.
MonkeyBox
Ah, Fred, dear Fred. His compliment of my kareoke-ing prowess in Vegas won my heart, and his pretty long hair, adeptness with fried foods and fun journal and forums kept me ensnared. The journal itself is still being updated by Ghost Writer, and she's a fine writer, but I miss my Fred.
