  • They start to grow lungs for breathing.
  • After a while, the tadpoles grow front legs.

  • Finally, the tadpoles lose their tails and become frogs.  (These are called spawn.)
  • After a few weeks, baby tadpoles hatch out of the spawn.  They breathe through gills, just like a fish.
