Write a newspaper report about the discovery of the pearl. Include quotations from Kino/Juana and a local pearl dealer. Bear in mind the following points about newspaper articles (look at real examples!):
- News articles normally tell us WHO, WHAT (happened), WHEN and WHERE in the first paragraph.
- The paragraphs are short.
- They usually give a person’s occupation, full name and age the first time they are mentioned – e.g. University student, Joko Sumantri, 24, was attacked …
(Notice the order. Also notice that the age is written with a comma before and after.)
- Later in the article, an adult is normally referred to by their surname (Sumantri was walking home from …). However, a child is usually referred to by their first name.
- The writer avoids repetition by using synonyms.
