Read up to the end of Chapter 14 (at least). Imagine that you are a newspaper reporter and you have interviewed Tom Fletcher, Marvinder and Jaspal about the children's horrific experiences in India and their adventurous journey to England in search of their father.
Write a newspaper article telling the story of the children's search.
You should:
write an opening paragraph which sums up the main events
WHO, WHERE, WHEN, WHY, HOW?)
use the kind of labels newspapers use
(e.g. Marvinder Kaur, 12, and her brother Jaspal, 10 ...)
explain why the family had to run away from home - the following sentences may be useful:
The children have come from the war-torn Punjab, where Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs are fighting for control of land. Their home was burned to the ground before they fled.
describe what has happened to the children since they left home
include some speech (quotes from the children or Tom), especially near the end of the report
explain what Tom plans to do next
give the article an eye-catching headline
