Siderite - Erzberg, Styria

Description: slightly weatherd, brownish siderite pebbles in a matrix of  sericitic schist. A quartz-ankerite veinlet
crosscuts the sample (left). The siderite pebble in the middle lower part is coarse-grained and shows a core of
white ankerite and quartz.
Genesis: highly controversal!
a) Upper Permian sedimentation of a conglomerate with Devonian limestone pebbles, metasomatic siderite formation
during the Permo-Triassic or Upper Cretaceous.
b) Upper Permian sedimentation of siderite pebbles, siderite formation "syn-sedimentary" with the Devonian host
limestone of the main mineralization.
Time of siderite formation: Devonian? or Permo-Triassic? or Late Cretaceous?
Time of  sedimentation of the conglomerat: Upper Permian - undoubted by all authors.
Locality: Dump of the Erzberg siderite mine, Styria, Austria.
