I was 22 years old, growning up & working for the Forest Service in SE Idaho, forest by the name of the Caribou. There is a section of highway that we locals (me being a former local) called "the Idaho Bermuda Triangle" due to the numerous unexplained accidents. The newspapers would always pass it off as "a bee. or other insect that distracted the driver". Anyway, I had just gotten off a week-long fire, & was going back to Pocatello to visit my parents. I was driving up I-15, northbound, just south of Inkom (population 55, including dogs), when I started seeing people walking alongside the highway. They were dressed in perioodical dress - 1800's, Nativie Americans, ect. Since it was 3 am, I assumed I was just "seeing things", like all the other people in the area did. I felt an odd lurch in my car (an old '73 Pinto). I looked in the rearview mirror, & saw what appeared to be a giant paw with claws extended (cougar, bear, wolverine, I don't know) swiping at my rear bumper. Needless to say, I floored it, heart thumping, & raced to the nearest open gas station as fast as I could. Talking to other people who traveled that section of freeway, I have heard other people mention the "ghosts of the freeway", but no mention of the paw. |
