Mediterranean coast road and bay
Notice the winding road, that's the main road all up and down the coast. This is either Kalkan or Kas, Kas being the better of the two to visit. Where I took this picture, from atop this bluff, a man who was building a house invited me to tea. I was amazed that everywhere in Turkey, they were so hospitable, I couldn't even stop to take a picture, without being invited to tea.(He was building the house to use as a kind of bed and breakfast)
View from the Medusa Hotel
This is Kas, a beautiful bay city on the southwestern coast. This is the place for $20 a night, with balcony and a new pool. Of course, that was in March, winter rates. It got cold at night, and I had a hard time asking them for some kind of a small heater, I don't know if they didn't have one or what, but they gave me extra blankets. This was a neat little city, with the Turkish coastguard stationed there, and a nice outdoor place to sit and watch everything.
This is Kekova sound
This is a really beautiful sound, with some small Islands out in it, where they will take you out on these little boats to an underwater city from ancient times, that they are still not sure what it is. You can't see much but some marble and stairs leading into the sea.I wanted some fish here, but all they had was this big one, and he said he would not cut it for me, so I had some greasy fried squid instead, but what a place. And boy, those boats are Loud
Nice beach in this area
There are some really nice summer beaches here on this coast, including one in Patara that is 7 miles long, complete with a sand filled Roman theatre.

Greek theatre and the Roman theatre at Aspendos
Here are two theatres, one on the left is a Greek one(without the stage wall), the one on the right is the grand Roman one at Aspendos, one of the best preserved in all the world, and really BIG
The Greek one was the neater of the two places to visit though. I had an old Turk show me around there. He took me up on a hike, past Lycian rock tombs, to look down on this theatre. It was like being back in ancient times, with the only sounds being the tinkling of the bells around the goats necks. The Roman theatre was fantastic, but I got hassled by old women trying to sell me picked weeds, and the gun toting army guys made me a bit nervous becuse of the recent Kurdish threats in the area. Aspendos is around Antalya,it was quite a drive to get around this big city to get to it.
Perge
This is Perge, another ancient city to see, very spread out over a large area. Interesting in it's own right, but by this time(near the end of my trip) I had seen so many Greek and Roman ruins, I had had almost enough. I embarked on a new adventure in Turkey after this, having nothing to do with ruins, and too strange to even talk about on this website.
Roman Aquaduct at Aspendos
One of the many great feats of Roman engineering, these aquaducts would bring in fresh water from the mountains into the ancient cities. Imagine taking a long luxurious bath in a marble lined bath complex, then strolling to the theatre afterwards to take in the latest Neil Simon play, (or was that Neilous Simonificus?)
