Mosquito class Merchant Destroyer
With all the talk of capturing vs. destroying merchant traffic, I decided to create a ship in the "capture" end of the spectrum. The capture bay is designed for 130% of the tonnage of a 200 ton ship. I figured I would follow the suggestion from many months ago and specify a configuration for the bay. The idea is that this ship can swallow a free trader whole and digest it at leisure. I am sure someone will point out that with its low armor, it won't stand much chance in the line of battle against a true warship, but that is not its intended purpose. It has jump 2 so it can work off the mains, and 3G so it can go faster than small merchants (which mostly have 1 or 2G). I did think about the configuration ahead of time and decided that the capture bay would fit in the flattened-sphere deckplan I had in mind. With only ten turrets available, none of the three batteries is to the level I would like it to be, but should be enough to disable most small merchants quickly.

This design has only limited armor, but enough armament to overcome most ships in the 400 ton or smaller range. A special feature of this design is the 260 ton "capture bay" which is shaped to fit most 200 ton ships of configurations of needle, wedge, or cone (and a wider range of configurations for smaller ships) with plenty of room left over for odd protrusions and working around the ship. The 16 member marine team allows boarding and capture of most smaller vessels, and they use the two ship's boats when required. A full two frozen watches allow for prize crews and replacement of battle injuries. The design includes several extra staterooms and low berths to accomodate prisoners.
