Hal asked for Meson Gun spinal mount armed SDBs (on 12 July 2004). His specifications were: smallest Meson spinal mount possible, TL12 and 13, armor 4+, agility 5+, minimum size craft to meet above requirements plus 6 months of un-resupplied operation.

I chose to design K'kree crewed ships, anticipating more response than his challenge has generated so far. Unfortunately, K'kree have so much more living space and supply space requirements than humans that getting 6 months of supplies in an otherwise minimum hull wasn't going to happen without making the ship quite huge.

This ship is going beyond his specifications to TL15, but I wanted to finish the sequence.

COMMENTS
The Swift Kick 15 class K'kree SDB (the name being a translation
into Galanglic from K'kree) is the smallest Tech Level 15 Meson
Gun spinal mount armed SDB possible to build with K'kree as crew.
The spinal mount and a missile bay are its only offensive weapons,
with agility, a repulsor bay, and four batteries of sandcasters as
active defence.  Passive defence consists of an armored hull and
a nuclear damper installation.

These SDBs are not uncommon to see in K'kree systems with larger 
populations and with a Tech Level of 15.  They are not popular with
their crews however, since the double occupancy means quarters are
tight for the K'kree - who are notoriously fond of elbow room on
their ships.  The initial design specifications for this class had
asked for a possible deployment time of up to six months.  Due to
a primary focus of compact ship design, the deployment capability
is the more common one month.
